I thought I would share some of the development of Empty Space Explorers over a few posts.
It is so interesting to look back at what it was like to what it has become!
To start with, some of the card design. This was the first prototype!
It served its purpose but we soon got BoardGamesMaker to knock us up something more visible:
A stroke of genius enabled us to get rid of the telescope and fuel icons so we moved onto:
And finally we came up with the beautiful images we have now:
We knew from the start that we wanted square cards. Sure, it goes against the grain but we had so many arguments in our house when the kids were younger about who was going to sit where as everybody wanted the board facing them!
With square cards, it doesn’t really matter where you sit as the board looks the same from all angles. Phew, a bit less arguing – you’d think 😊
How have we gone from all those funny symbols on the cards (and is that a coin in that picture above???!!!???) to no symbols at all.
Well I’ll look at that in the next post.
