Part of the game involves searching for new specific cards. Are you allowed to sort the cards numerically before starting?

Theoretically not, having them in order allow you also to check all the numbers and sometimes exclude possible solutions.
But, of course, you are free to do so if it enhances the experience for you

The rules say no I think.

It ruins the experience a bit because you might remember that certain cards are not there.

It is not too bad though, so if you really want to, then go for it.

Do what you want. It's a GAME. Whatever is fun for you is permissible.

We think a nice compromise is this -- If you want to sort the cards, do so once you start the timer. That way it's at least costing you some time -- and you certainly are not going to remember much of what is/is not in the deck that way.
