Out of nowhere, Nigel began to hear new whispers. Names, places numbers... none of it made any sense. Or did it? He found the rift in time where these voices were strongest, and sought out the heroes whose whispered names he heard the most... He would join them. He would be strong. He must.

This is the 21st Weekly One-shot from the SotM videogame, from May 2016. Details of previous games can be found in the Sentinels of the Multiverse PBF Weekly One-Shots Geeklist - last time, the Freedom Six had a long slog but finally managed to fight off a Thorathian invasion. This time, the heroes face Infinitor, but is he friend or foe..?

As usual, priority will be given to those who haven't played before and those not currently in a PbF game.

Updates will be primarily limited to UK office hours.

I will happily sit out in preference to a newbie. But I really do enjoy these games.

These games are based on the Weekly One-shots from the video game. We are recreating/replaying specific set-ups - villain, heroes, environments. (But not, I assume, the specifically ordered decks from the weekly one-shots.)

Spot on! I have no way of being able to replicate the specific deck arrangements other than repeatedly playing each scenario in the videogame to try to piece them together. I have neither the time nor (in most cases) the DLC necessary to do that

In this scenario, it is the base version of each Hero that is involved, although it is the alternative version of Infinitor ('Heroic Infinitor').

I guess we'll take that as a no

As Noah has already ruled himself out, our four players and order of choosing characters are:
1. WalkingDeadMann: 1d100 = (88) = 88
2. ShawnI: 1d100 = (34) = 34
3. jsdougan: 1d100 = (28) = 28
4. spbtc: 1d100 = (26) = 26

Or pass and I'll assign randomly at the end.

Re: PBF #137 - The Hero We Need

Start:
- Three Crushing Cages removed from the game
- Ocular Swarm, Recalescent Hellion, Ocular Swarm, and Ocular Swarm are put into play
Play: Machinations of a Madman
- Lambent Reaper is revealed from the Villain deck and put into play
- Twisted Miscreation is played from the Villain deck
End:
- Infinitor deals 1 Manifestation 2 + 1 - 1 [Infinitor] = 2 Melee damage (reduced to 1 if TM)
- RH deals Sky-Scraper and Chrono-Ranger 3 Fire damage
- LR deals The Argent Adept 2 Energy damage and 2 Psychic damage
- TM deals Sky-Scraper 4 Energy damage

Which Manifestation will Infinitor hit?

Ocular Swarm? Typically I'd say Lambent Reaper, but I'm not sure how important that is early in the game.

Re: PBF #137 - The Hero We Need
I just realized that I don't know what the Tormented Ally Infinitor does on his flip side. Anyone want to send me the text on this promo?

That said, what's our plan? Try and keep Infinitor alive so he can take out his own manifestations?

Since the manifestations are indestructible, we can ignore the Ocular swarm, actually. I'd say instead hit the Lambent Reaper - we want to keep us all alive, and that is the one that most takes us down.

I'm really not familiar with this Infinitor, but looking at his card it looks like we really can't do anything to destroy manifestations. Infinitor will remove them if he attacks them and their HP is 1 or 0. But only one at a time unless there are cards that allow him to damage his own constructs (which I think there are). However, once he flips the tucked cards are formally destroyed, which means the tucked Ocular Swarms will fire and we'll get a bit of a swarm of manifestations.

I know it seems "wrong" to hit heroic Infinitor, but the only was to win is to defeat his other side, and he won't flip until this side is defeated. And I think waiting for his manifestations to take him out is chancy and likely to get us really beat up in the mean time (and on the ropes before he even flips).
