Mission Briefing - The Battle of Hoth

The overwhelming forces of the massive Imperial ground assault bear down upon Echo Base, and their devastating artillery will bring down the shield generator any time now.

Rebel forces scramble to evacuate as a few brave souls face the Imperial onslaught. As the main body of the assault closes in on the base, smaller squads break through the thin defensive line to attack evacuating Rebels.

You stand in the midst of the chaos, defending fleeing Rebel pilots beneath the curtain of a smaller, equally faltering shield generator. From where you stand, the damage doesn't look that bad; if you can get it running properly, you might have a fighting chance to escape.


*Once per activation, a Rebel figure can interact with a terminal to choose a hostile figure and roll 1 red die. That figure suffers mb equal to 1 plus the mb results. Then discard that terminal.

*Mission tokens represent power stations. When the Rebel side is faceup, that power station is active.

*A hero can interact with an inactive power station (insight or tech) to activate it. Flip the token to the Rebel side.

*When an Echo Base Trooper figure is defeated, increase mb by 2.

*The mission will progress when all power stations are active (mb). The mission ends when all heroes are wounded.

Cool! Not sure how RAIV works, exactly. Will have to read up on it, specifically on how it chooses activations and targets, and what retreat means.

I can update the file and post in the mornings when nothing else is going on with the StoryCore game. I anticipate that will suck up most of my time though, especially once the narrative advances more.

I don’t think Sasha has a good Range 4 shot; will have to run the numbers. Biv could advance and try to paste a Snowtrooper - 48% with C&P. Also puts him next to the Probe in case it doesn’t go next.

I would save device tokens for Saska or the rEchoes. Biv has no useful surge abilities to start with.

At the very basic level, cards are placed left to right based on the order they are listed in the campaign guide. They will activate in order left to right.

So, the officers will both go first before the probe droids and snowtroopers.

I'll have to reference Retreat again, since I can't remember off the top of my head, but it's not all that complicated from when I read the rules.

Oh, that it interesting. Known activations make this more of a puzzle to be solved than a variable to account for.

Well, if Biv goes first he can potentially down Louie, then Saska can put some hurt on GIR and Biv can terminate it before it gets to go.

I like that better. Perfect knowledge and Imperial Assault don’t go together.

Saska giving tokens to Echoes would also let them open fire with RG from 3 spaces. Could be useful.

Yeah, I like the idea of giving one of the echoes a token and moving up and taking a shot at GIR to weaken him.

I want to try to drop a droid before it goes (hopefully) so that it doesn't get that +1 damage bonus.

So move to K7 and shoot?

K7 and shoot works for me. Always a chance he goes next but less than the certainty he would against an Imperial!

Eliminating threat is probably a better idea than the objective super-sprint.

No problem. That's another reason I thought it would be good for us to use the forums for this. I've always wanted to try it out and see RAIV in action, so I just bit the bullet and went for it.

My experiment to put Vassal on my work computer failed because I can't install JRE on it.

Oh well. I can try to do ghetto map updates with Paint in between.

I'm watching, too - out of curiosity how RAIV works out for you, and because I love Biv and Saska dearly.

If you have any questions or suggestions regarding RAIV, please let me know

(I always use the random activation modification, by the way.)
