Due to Columbus Day and the fact that I am out of the country right now, this month's meeting will be held on the 3rd Monday of the month, rather than our usual 2nd Monday.
So, this month we will be meeting on Monday, October 15th from 7-10pm (although we usually go later) in the Mohegan Lake Barnes & Noble at Cortlandt Town Center on Route 6.
This month it seems they are renovating the Cafe on that day, so look for our gaming tables elsewhere in the store.
I'll be bringing a bunch of board and card games from my collection. There will be a good mix of simpler and more complicated strategy games and gateway games and maybe a party game or two and hopefully there will be something fun for everyone.
My collection can be viewed here on BGG and if anyone who plans to attend would like to request a specific game, just reply to this thread or send me an email at Nwbgg@aol.com. Also feel free to bring your own games.
And remember, as always, anyone is welcome and no experience is necessary. Games will be taught with patience and with strategy tips. You can RSVP, or you can just show up.
Hope to see everyone there on Monday, October 15th.
The exact address is 3089 East Main Street, Route 6, Mohegan Lake, NY 10547.
Re: Northern Westchester Boardgame Group meeting October 15t
Well, besides some very irritating periodic noises coming from the Cafe, which was under renovation, we had a lot of fun.
Barnes & Noble did clear out another area and set up our usual tables and was as accommodating as always.
I got two games set up before the majority of people arrived so that everyone could sit right down and start learning and playing. At one table we had a 4-player game of The Downfall of Pompeii, at another table there was a 3-player game of La Strada that turned into a 4-player game when a guy walking by noticed what was going on and asked if he could join in (that's why I like having the group in a public place) and I played a 2-player game of 10 Days in Europe with the last straggler to get there (I won't name names).
10 Days in Europe finished rather quickly with both of us needing just a blue plane and I happened to get it first for the win.
La Strada finished up next with newcomer Ryan victorious.
While I waited for Vesuvius to blow so that I could explain how the second half of The Downfall of Pompeii worked, everyone else played a couple of word games.
They were loud and there were a lot of laughs as they played Apples to Apples, which Audrey won, and In a Pickle, which they quit after 2 pickle rounds because, well, maybe just because it's a tough game to judge. Can a Forest be in Danger if the same Danger is in a Bank? No one wanted to think that much about it, so they bailed (justifiably).
And finally, in The Downfall of Pompeii, after all the lava was done flowing and all the people were tossed into the volcano, when the last few citizens had run for their lives out of the city gates, there was a tie between Laura and Hal (that's right, they tied the tiebreaker too).
With 8 people left we all played a game of Wits & Wagers in teams of 2. Audrey and I had the biggest stack, but we divided our bets in the last round and lost to Nancy and Saloney who bet it all on their own answer that Jupiter is 100 times bigger than Earth. That isn't true, but they were closest without going over and they cashed in and won the game.
We split up again and there was another game of 10 Days in Europe at one end of the table, which Nancy won, and I played in a game of R-Eco at the other end. The drilling sound was about to drive a few of us insane at that point, but we soldiered on and they eventually took a break.
It was the first game of R-Eco for all 4 of us and it took half the game just to figure out a half-decent strategy for that game. In the end I'm not sure any of us really figured it out satisfactorily, but I managed to eek out a 1 point victory over Hal due to his illegal dumping.
We all had a lot of fun and played a lot of games and finished up right around 10pm (usually we go later).
Thanks to Saloney for requesting some word games, sorry one of them was kind of a bust. Hopefully more people will give me requests for next time so that I can bring the games, or types of games, people are wanting to play.
We will be back to our usual 2nd Monday of the month next time, so that puts our next meeting on Monday, November 12th.
