It's been some months since it was made known via Poppelkiste and Spielbox that Alea were considering changes to future printings of Carpe Diem.

Previous thread here: Upcoming new printing with some changes, which mostly became a repetition of comments about the green tiles, action selection star/circle, and the scoring, but no update on status.

Is there an update on the reprinting of the English edition - is it planned or underway?

I'd be very surprised if they've made any official and firm announcements of a second edition, while the first print is still on sale. It would totally kill sales of that first edition.

I decided that the game was good enough to own even with its frustrating list of bad production choices. If a second edition ever happens, I can upgrade to it.

I think they will print it in the new alea big box line after they are done with the new edition with burgundy and las vegas. It will a way to get the collectors buying both! (Which i will)
The game is that good!

I agree with both your points. There is no way that they'll announce an upgrade reprint until they've sold all their stock. And while the graphic design choices aren't great, they're just comfort factors, they don;t affect the gameplay.

Yeah, a few quick fixes improved the game for me so I'm not going to want to buy a 2e version.

While I agree that there are problems with the graphic design of this game, their affect on gameplay and enjoyment have been blown way out of proportion.

I have had the game since release and I have been enjoying it very much since then. The graphic design issues quickly fade into the background and the game is very playable and enjoyable in its current form.

This makes the most sense since they are rebranding.

What's the problem with the graphic design? Is it the dark green colours on the reverse of the tiles being similar green to the non dark green tiles, or something else? I've had no problems with it.

Yup, my wife has no problem deciphering the dark green from the light green tiles. Me? BIG PROBLEM. So I simply put a red dot sticker on the backsides of the dark green tiles. Problem solved.

That's the worst one. There's also issues with the yellow buildings being somewhat similar to brown buildings in certain lighting, inconsistencies with depiction of fields as ovals or squares, the use of terrible point cards and the unnecessary star-shaped track on the board.

None of these are game breaking though, and I've either marked up my components as appropriate or switched to using a scoreboard so I don't have to deal with the Victory Point cards.

I have the 2nd print run and it doesn’t seem to have really fixed anything.

Photo of probably 2nd print?

Improved symbols on border tiles. Better contrast dark green/lighter green. Circular movement instead of along the lines.

It´s just a photo - I have no more additional information.

So your printing has the circular movement? Do you know anyone with the earlier printing to compare with to identify the differences?

Interesting. Do you have a source? If there's something like this floating around in the wild maybe the second edition isn't far off (I would hesitate to call it the second printing, someone above mentioned they have a second printing with no differences)

The source was a Twitter post from @gamesweplay_de:
https://twitter.com/gamesweplay_de/status/112510776971824742...

I was really surprised they didn't add some sort of icon on the back to distinguish between the 2 types of green tiles, though as Paulo said, they do appear much easier to tell apart (from that photo, anyway).

Surprised that people don't like the wheel and the scorecards, I mean, isn't that two of the big mechanics to this game? How would the game work without them? It would a different game at that point. Right? I feel alone on this.

They're not mechanics, just production choices. If I choose to use poker chips instead of the paper money provided in Lords of Vegas, I'm not playing a different game, just using less shitty money.

1. Just make it a circular rondel. It makes zero gameplay difference, apart from making it artificially more difficult to plan future moves.

2. Use poker chips or a scoretrack. I've used both, and both are nicer to use than the point cards.

It still has the star pattern. But it is the second print run. Apparently they must have decided to do another print run of the old edition while they waited for the updated version or something.

What? you move in a circle, look at that photo posted, it clearly shows they removed the lines in the middle of the board. They have revised it to circular movement.

Ya he knows that. Reading for detail is important.

RE: Circular movement vs. line following

Perhaps in another thread but did Feld say why he didn't think of ciruclar movement in the first place? I wonder if he would've made the game differently had he thought about circular movement.

It was discussed in this thread where you can see a diagram illustrating the warped circle. Here is a link straight to Feld’s response https://www.boardgamegeek.com/article/29908903#29908903

He did not realize that it was a circle. But he did not say whether he considered a plain circle at any point.

You don't need symbols on the back of the dark green tiles or even a darker shade; you need watermarks on the front of them so you don't have to flip them all over at the end of the game to sort them out.

Hi, I really want this game. Does anyone know roughly, how long until we see this 2nd edition in the shops? Are we talking a year, months, weeks?

I'm so tempted, but I know as soon as i order a copy, the new one will come out :-)

Thanks
