I wont be making any game changes. But I will release templates afterwards so others may make custom races (Like a Lantid 2.0 like you are requesting)

These are excellent! I would definitely consider printing and laminating them to use instead of the originals.

However I would want to wait until you are satisfied that it is no longer "Work in Progress"; I don't want to go through the expense multiple times. Would you let us know when you reach that point?

did you changed the original faction characters because of the copyrights or because they dont really fit into the theme of your design?

I like the new ones! Just thinking about that they are maybe from other artists or did you made them by yourself?

Ok viewing them now for some minutes I have to say:

The Ability Text on the building is ok.

But when it comes to the whole text on upper right corner, I think the text is too small. With a lot a of text I had my problem reading them 30cm away from me. With symbols I am confused in the game but at least after an explanation I can make a logical bridge to it.

So maybe making the text a little bit bigger would be better?

Also if you have the minus there for forcing power , why not making a plus for the Ore -> 1 Power in Bowl I? I can see question from beginners about this a lot in the future.



@Izak Marais : I wouldnt laminate them. Better print them on 200mg paper.

Laminated Paper led the resource marker slide super fast on it.

One thing that may be lacking is the special action orange octagonal space that some faction abilities require.

I don't get why the Terraforming steps are green instead of brown or something

I really like the new images of the factions

I don't like the text the much, for most part symbols are easy to understand and way faster to grasp then text. Especially for simple stuff, like having a starting tech step

In round 6 you sometimes have A LOT OF resources. And if you grab the 9 knowlegde, you already have 9 immediately...


Then we can think about mayby marking one side of the knowledge or ore markers with "10+", then when it exceeded 10, we can flop it over...

I am quite impressed with the current design of the resource track as an upgrade from TM. It was such a pain to pick up 9 workers in a game of TM. Just seeing if there's any potential of further improvement.

You may look at the one for Bal T'aks, it has the orange special action.

But the robot faction needs its special action added back.

Thanks everyone! The race pictures were changed because I can not source the original pictures. Only a few of them appear in the instruction manual and everywhere else they are dreadfully cropped or low res.

These race pictures are from various artists that I will attribute on the final release however I do not have official permission to use them so I can not do a commercial release or kickstarter.

I am an artist myself and could recreate the race pictures that way I have recreated the planet pictures, but that will take significant time.

At this point I need to do one of the following:

1) get high quality original gaia project images
2) illustrate them myself
3) continue getting art from other artists
4) remove the race images entirely

Maybe I should make a poll for this

One thing that is a problem is the changed iconography in general.
For example, the "+2" navigation is different from the icon on the navigation track and (in particular) the "+3" round bonus tile.

Thus, you actually make it so that players will need to learn two different symbols for the same meaning. This also ties in with the earlier comments about the terraforming symbol being different.

I do like the new look of the boards, but the icons should only be changed if there is no other place where the symbols are used, even if they are simpler.

My original intention was to recreate the player board and research board.

I may have to also do the round boosters, because the Green Arrow / Red Arrow / White arrow thing is a really bad design decision on their part in my opinion. I guess I need to decide what parts of the original game we want to continue using

I really like other artists. The Race characters is the one thing that drives me away design wise from Gaia Project and Terra Mystica (horrible sometimes).

I agree. The new character art is much, much better. The cartoony style of the original game just isn't a good fit for a sci-fi theme.
