This week we are trying out a newe(if you don't count TFM 2nd ep) reoccurring episode type, MHGG expands! We are looking at two expansions, one for Euphoria and one for A Feast for Odin! We wanted to look at games that we felt fell short in some fashion and see if expansions were able to fix our issues or exasperate our problem with them.

Ignorance is Bliss is a 2019 expansion for Euphoria by Stonemaier Games.

Ignorance is Bliss adds some things and changes some things. You get a new set of faction cards, including a couple that are factionless and a new set of market tiles to build. It also changes a couple of things, including a variable length for the tunnels and a new Market Bazaar for gaining cards.

*Ignorance is Bliss was provided to us by Stonemaier Games.*

The Norweigans is a 2018 expansion for A Feast for Odin by Z-man Games.

The Norweigans makes a few KEY changes and adds a lot of stuff. A new modular WP board was created so the game can feel better with a variety of players. They also replaced the base game island tiles to match the new tiles from the expansion. Finally, another tray with new cardboard pieces are added, including two new animals.

If you have any question or comments about these expansions please put them down below.

Norwegians is the best kind of expansion; it adds more of what made the base game so great while also tightening up the design and rebalancing things with little to no rules additions. The redesigned modular action boards are easier to parse thanks to less spaces overall and add actual player interaction to force diversity of strategies. The artisan huts give you a direction to head in from the start and an early source of bonuses. The new islands also help your economy with new bonuses. The U shape tiles and new special tiles also make it easier to get those crucial bonus spaces surrounded, letting those sweet polyominos flow.

The biggest and best change though is the 5th column of action spaces. They encourage you to take big 3-4 meeple actions early and often to get that sweet final column action first, which helps speed up the game and remove some of the nickel and diming 1-2 meeple strategies that could be a slog before. I even managed to fit Norwegians in the base box and the whole thing fully closes. Overall, it takes a solid 9 game to a 10 for me. It's my favorite Uwe game, and with The Norwegians joins the ranks of Agricola as a masterpiece.

That was great episode, really enjoyed hearing your thoughts pre-and post-expansion. I think what you did worked, so it would be good to hear more episodes like this one.

Maybe next time, expansions you didn't think were needed (if there is such a thing!)?
