Snowdonia: Deluxe Master Set is chock full of cards, wooden bits, rule books, player aids, and storage bins. However, one thing which is notably missing from the box is a comprehensive guide to unboxing, organizing, and storing all this goodness!

Unboxing

Inside the game box you should find 3 GameTrayz™ plastic storage bins (2 lids), 2 GameTrayz™ white card organizers, 13 packs of cards, various wooden bits, 1 game board, 1 rule book, 1 Scenario Book, 1 Train Master List Appendix, 10 Player Aids, 1 score pad, 1 pencil, and 2 dice

When organizing the 13 card packs, please note that one pack is noticeably smaller than the other 12 packs. Set this one aside for now.

Before unwrapping the 12 remaining card packs, please note that you will be able to identify various cards using the card ID displayed in the lower left corner of each card (for example: SD061 or MR023). Locate and unwrap the card packs in the following order, based on the card ID of the first card in each pack:

a) SD001
b) SD061
c) CT001
d) JB010
e) MR023
f) MW005
g) NB008
h) QT013
i) AR007
j) GC003
k) EN020
l) EN080

By unwrapping and stacking the decks back-to-back in the above order (with "a" being the first pack and SD001 being the first card), you will be able to organize the cards much more easily.

Component List

747 Cards
These are detailed separately, by set, below.

Player Pieces (in 5 colors)
1 Surveyor
1 Coffin
3 Labourers
16 Ownership Markers

Wooden Game Markers
1 Start Player marker (locomotive)
1 Excavation Rate marker (shovel)
1 alternate Excavation Rate marker (axe)
1 Lay Track Rate marker (track)

Wooden Discs
3 Sun
3 Rain
5 Fog
5 Snow
8 "No Entry" (black with red X)

Wooden Bits
5 Events (white cubes)
14 Coal (black cubes)
24 Stone (gray cubes)
40 Iron Ore (orange cubes)
90 Rubble (smaller tan cubes)
20 Steel Bar (black sticks)

Other Wooden Bits
1 Yeti (the Abominable Snowman)
2 Generals
16 Dynamite
16 Goats
16 Flowers (Daffodils)
16 Lumber
16 Oxygen
16 Water

Boards and Rules
1 double-sided game board
1 rule book (12 pages)
1 Scenario Book (76 pages)
1 Train Master List Appendix (20 pages)
10 double-sided Player Aids (2 per player)

Miscellaneous
1 six-sided die
1 "tie die"

Organizing the Bits

Locate the three plastic GameTrayz™. When we are done organizing these, this is what we will have:

The large lid-less tray will hold all player components, basic game cards, and the pencil. For each player color, place the square Ownership Markers and the coffin in the upper compartment. Stand the 3 Labourers and the Surveyor in the lower compartment.

For the cards, you will now need to locate all base game cards from the stacks we organized and unwrapped above. Most of these cards are marked with the set icon [SD] in the lower right corner. All of these cards also have a card ID in the range SD001–SD073. In other words, there are 73 base game cards total.

SD001–SD030 Contract cards
SD031–SD037 Train cards
SD038–SD051 Track cards
SD052–SD054 Track cards, optional
SD055–SD065 Action Area overlay cards *
SD066–SD073 Station cards

* Please note that SD060 is referenced as the "special [B] EXCAVATION Action Area overlay card" in the rules.

Unless otherwise stated, these cards are always used in each scenario. Because of their special significance and frequent use, we recommend storing these cards separately from the rest of the game cards in the 5 spaces provided. In the image below, these cards are organized as follows (from left to right):

30 Contract cards
8 Station cards
10 Action Area overlay cards
17 Track cards + "Special" overlay card (SD060)

Placed horizontally underneath the Station cards and overlay cards are the 7 Train cards.

Now, let us focus on how to store all the fancy wooden pieces. We will first organize the smaller of the two trays.

From left-to-right, top-to-bottom:

Yeti, Axe, Flowers, Dynamite, Lumber
Generals, Water, Oxygen

Next, the larger of the two trays.

From left-to-right, top-to-bottom:

Iron Ore, Stone, Coal, Steel Bars
Sun, Rain, Fog, Snow, "No Entry"
Rubble, Goats

On the right side, the following bits are stored, from top-to-bottom:

Track, Shovel, Locomotive, Events

Organizing the Cards

The game box comes with two card organizers. If you do not sleeve your cards, they will easily fit into just a single tray. If you choose to sleeve your cards, they will easily fit into both trays.

We recommend printing out the Official Card Organizer Dividers to aid you in keeping your cards organized. Alternatively, you may utilize any of the other excellent community-created dividers uploaded to the file database.

When storing the cards in the organizers, whether sleeved or not, we recommend storing them in the following order:

There is no dedicated tray space for them. They can simply go directly in the box, perhaps in the ziploc bag in which they came.

Thanks for that comprehensive schedule. Unfortunately I now realise that my copy didn't come with an axe. I wondered what that shape next to the Yeti on the insert was for! surprise

I’m missing 5 things but had an extra bag of lumber.

Emailed NSKN last Sunday and got an answer same day saying they’d get them sent out to me 👍🏻. Great service.

Thanks for this!

Re locating and unwrapping the packs of cards:

My pack of QT cards starts with QT013 not QT012. The QT012 card is at the back of the pack NB008. (Sorry if this sounds pedantic but thought I’d mention it!)

Also for those of you (like me!) who only looked at the front of the packs and couldn’t find the rest of the Base cards starting with SD061 - flip over the pack marked BB013 and you will find it.

Loving the game!

Fantastic work. I use my spare card box to keep the dice, bag, blank cards and card board.
Best storage of a board game ever, for me.

Thanks, excellent guide!

Should have been delivered with the game ;-)

Now, if only those card boxes were a littler bit longer, there’s plenty of room still and it would help with sleeved cards.
For now, I keep some in baggies and that’s fine.

I purchased the sleeves in the pledgemanager. All the sleeved cards fit just fine, and with a little bit to spare. Agree that a guide like this should be provided given how much we paid for the game. Another thing they should have provided were deck dividers, one per 2 letter prefix.

Amazing guide. Being completely new to Snowdonia, I opened the box and kind of mumbled for a bit. I found the insert guide on the Kickstarter updates, but had no idea how to tell which cards were which. Thank you very much for the complete and concise list.

Thank you for this!

It would have taken me a long time to unbox it without this guide.

Thankfully I got away with just a pink laborer with a broken axe and I received two purple surveyors instead of a yellow surveyor.

I've just reported this to NSKN.

Just curious: did you include all of the baggies for those who don't want to use the trays?

The bags can be used for wood bits, cards, or anything else you would like to organize in a particular way. This way, everyone should be able to organize the game exactly the way they want.

Additionally, if the bags turn out to be superfluous, you know there will be a game you buy soon that will not include enough bags.

Thanks for the detailed walkthrough and pics. I missed the order of cards to open in my eagerness, but it made sense after I saw that. The organizers work well. I just have to print and cut the dividers now for easier organization.

Also don't seem to be missing anything, which is a plus. I even have a use for some of those bags already.

I've found that putting the game board on top of the bottom tray helps keep everything in place when stored vertically. I then put the smaller trays on the board and then the card boxes, which fit into the smaller tray covers saving about a 1/4".

How are people getting this back in the box with all this stuff in it? I have tried and did exactly as posted here and I have a 1/4" gap and the box won't close to be able to fit the sleeve on.

How are the GameTraz covers in everyone's copy, because mine are held up just enough by the sides of the trays and lids from allowing the box to close properly. Basically I have to take the bottom tray out to get any where near the clearance I'm seeing in everyone's pictures for the lid.

It's a tight fit for sure. I had to flatten my custom tabs on my dividers so they lay flat. Once I did that, I got everything back in and the slipcover back on (which was the hardest part, for sure). I don't have the game in front of me at the moment but I believe the three gametrayz where on the bottom or actually maybe I put the board on the bottom, then the trays, then the rest of the manuals and the two card boxes.

basically the bottom edges of the card box lids must be flush (even) with the bottom surface of the card box bottom. I didn’t sleeve my cards and they are split between the two card boxes and “recline” about 45degrees so that the card box top settles completely down. Also, I put the score pad inside one of the card boxes (most empty one). With all the errata paper work, it is a squeeze job to get the sleeve on.
