On page 16 "Luckily Jay is playing a mage". In the role playing game I could understand that a mage would have lightning bolt for example but really you can buy anything from the black market in Crossfire no matter what role you are right? I.e. anyone could have this hand of cards in the example.

Yes, anyone can have any card. However, a number of cards have an affinity for a certain role, primarily due to that role having more of a certain card type in their deck. A card that gives a bonus for other cards of one color would obviously benefit a character who has more of that type of card to start with.

Yes, anyone could have that card, but in 9 out of 10, it ends up with the mage that usually has the smallest deck, and the means to cycle the deck.
