A long shot I know but does anyone know of anywhere that's likely to be showing the Rugby World Cup in Essen? England could be playing in a semi-final on the Saturday morning and that is a game I really do not want to miss.

There's an Irish pub very close to the Messe, Fitzpatrick, I believe. I'm sure you'll be able to see it there.

Could you listen to it on the radio while at the fair?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/48293171

BBC has exclusive coverage of all the games. Do the halls block wifi?

Sadly they don't open until 11 and KO is 10:15 CET.

I probably won't be at the fair on the Saturday. It's too busy and after 2 days I've always got enough games to just spend a day in the hotel playing my purchases Radio is a good shout though as a last resort!

Worlds semis may be a reason to open earlier. It‘s certainly a reason to have a beer...
BBC TV streams require a proxy in Germany. Not sure if this is necessary for radio streams as well.

Thanks. I will wait and see if England get to the semi-final and if they do I will email and ask if they are opening early to show it. Yes, it's an excellent excuse to have a beer! Or even two, or three.....

Weird ... I got a banner ad for "Rugby The Game" when I opened this thread.

I don't know much about Rugby, but there's a small local team. Maybe they know something or even watch together, so you could join.

This is a very interesting thread that I did not expect to see in Essen.
Meanwhile, has anyone mentioned that there is an rugby boardgame right now being funded in Ks? https://www.kicktraq.com/projects/278948492/rugby-the-game/

I contacted Fitzpatrick's who have confirmed they will be open early on Saturday and will be showing the rugby.

Kick off is 10:00 local time and they are opening at 09:00.

Website:
http://fritzpatricks.com/

It's only a short walk from the halls.

Posting this is in case anyone else is interested in watching the game on Saturday. Any Wales (or South African!) fans may want to drop them an email just to confirm they are doing the same on Sunday.

May well see some of you there on Saturday!!

Thanks for doing the research. I also came here trying to find a place, so I'll likely be there (unless I get lazy and watch it in my hotel).

I suspect we'll be supporting different teams though... Go the All Blacks!

It was a great place to watch the game. So pleased I was able to watch the rugby as I was worried my best bet would be huddling around someone's laptop in a hotel bedroom. The place was heaving by the time we left. Full of people who had turned up to watch German football. We even went back for the Wales v SA game yesterday
