Hi,
I have read from http://www.blue-moon-fans.com that there is a people called the Rhul. I know that it is not official, but I like to know about it. Can anybody tell me what it is? I cannot read German!

Re:Rhul
tw252 (#45193),
I typed the URL into Google's translate page, here's what came up (the translation's pretty choppy):

Shorah,

Here is to be discussed, how at the end the finished people is to look.
Which characters come purely, which values, leader actions etc....

In the momentary people sets are up to now 38-39 moons contained.
and still 4 maps are missing
if we proceed simply from nem cut with 2 moons per map, we would come on a total number of 46-47 moons per people
I think of this guideline should we hold which the moon costs concern myself...

Suggestion for the set:

current conditions: 14.07.2004

Characters:

- 5/1 (1 moon)
- 0/5 (1 moon)
- again take up 4/3 (2 moons)
- 2/4 again take up (1 moon)
- 4/1 (0 moons)
- 0/4 (0 moons)
- 3/2 (0 moons)
- 1/3 (0 moons)
- 2/2 shade symbol (3 moons)

- 2/2 special function:
"I may out-play a support as reinforcement, which I may take up in the next course again."
(Rhuldoph of the Oberdepp, change of name: Confused shade)
(1 moon)

- 2/2 stop/special function:
"you can do me only with at least 2 active maps in your combat and support range, and a strength of at least 5 attack."
(Paragraf the inexorable one, inexorable shade)
(2 moons)

- 2/1 shade symbol (2 moons)
- 1/2 shade symbol (2 moons)
- 1/1 shade symbol (1 moon)

- 1/1 star/special function:
"if the lonely shade with me as only active map is laid out, quadruples themselves its values."
(lonely shade)
(2 moons)

- 1/1 special function:
"in this course I may add the values of one of your active characters."
(furthermore shade)
(3 moons)

16 characters (for the moment 21 moons)

Reinforcement:

- 3/3 (elbow of the darkness) (without again, 2 moons take up)
- 2/2 (1 moon)
- 1/1 star (shade impact) (1 moon)

- smoke hazes
1/1 special function:
"if I withdraw myself, may take I 1 map from my combat range back on the hand, however not the smoke haze."
(1 moon)

- coat of the night
"I may apply this map only to characters without moon costs. One of my active characters may use the shade symbol."
(2 moons)

5 reinforcement (for the moment 7 moons)
Should 6... still EN become idea?

Supports:

- Amulett of the spirit (formerly Foliant of the rules)
1/2 special function:
"everyone of your active characters increases the ground connection and fire value of the Amuletts of the spirit by in each case 1."
(3 moons)

- 1/1 (0 moons)

- secret federation of the Rhul:
"at the beginning of my course I may take 1 back of my active reinforcement on the hand."
(2 moons)

- Foliant of the darkness:
"at the end of my course I may pull 1 additional map tight."
(2 moons)

- ceremony of the shade:
"the values one of my characters with shade symbol double themselves." (1 moon)

5 supports (for the moment 8 moons)

Leader actions:

- Beschwoerde the darkness
"you must mix as many hand maps again into your pulling tight pile, to you only 5 maps on the hand have."
(1 moon)

- destruction of the thoughts
"now I may throw all off your active maps with special functions."
(3 moons)

- swear to the shade
"in this course your characters, with exception of Rhul characters, are ignored."
(2 moons)

- Zaehme the holy kite
"I may uncover 1 map of my pulling tight pile. Reinforcement or support: either on the hand take, or throw off around 1 kite to win. A character or leader action: throw off."
(4 moons)

4 leader actions (for the moment 10 moons)

Altogether:
30 maps, 46 moons (up to now)

thus remained for us still max. 1 moon for the one missing reinforcement...

Re:Rhul
captkayoss (#45211),
Probably easier to read the German.
It is faily clear the "reinforcement" is "booster" and there is some new attribute called SHADE. But I don't see an Icon on the cards on that site for it.

Hopefully one of the German fans who also monitor BGG will be able to clear some of this up.

for explanation: the shade icon allows you to add the strengh of the top inactive character to the one you're now playing (with the icon on it).

Re:Rhul
captkayoss (#45211),

uhh...
stop using those translation tools...
this is so horrible...

I'll give you a better translation, but not a perfect one, due to the fact, that also my english isn't perfect...

Also we (I ) made lots of corrections, so the list posted by captkayoss isn't up to date anymore

So here comes the current list of the cards we're gonna use know... (at the moment laugh)
(I'm not able to post the characters full names because I don't know the correct terms... sorry for that...)

leader:

- Rhul 00: Rulor the Powerful

characters:

- Rhul 01: 5/1 (1 moon) (Tarul)

- Rhul 02: 0/5 (1 moon) (Erul)

- Rhul 03: 4/3 (1 moon) (Kilor)

- Rhul 04: 2/4 (0 moons) (Palir)

- Rhul 08: 1/3 (0 moon) (Marul)

- Rhul 09: 2/2 special power text: (1 moon) (Numor)
"Now I may play a support like a booster, which I may retrieve to my hand at the beginning of my next turn."

- Rhul 10: 2/2 stop / special power text: (2 moons)
"You can only fight me back with at least 2 active cards in your combat and support area, and a power of at least 5.

- Rhul 11: 2/2 shadow (3 moons) (Mighty Shadow)

- Rhul 12: 2/1 shadow (2 moons) (Gray Shadow)

- Rhul 13: 1/2 shadow (2 moons) (Black Shadow)

- Rhul 14: 1/1 shadow (1 moon) (Dark Shadow)

- Rhul 15: 1/0 shadow (1 moon) (another Dark Shadow laugh )

- Rhul 16: 0/1 shadow (1 Mond) (another Dark Shadow)
(damn translation tools... 3 different words in german and he gives me 3 times "darkly" as a translation...)

- Rhul 17: 1/1 special power text: (3 moons) (Far Shadow)
"Now I may add the values from one of you active characters to those of the far shadow."

- Rhul 18: 1/1 free / special power text: (2 moons) (Rilmar the Hermit)
"If Rilmar the Hermit is my only active card in my combat area, then his values quadruple."

- Mutant 111: 5 shield/5 shield / special power text: (0 moons) (Bal-ath-Ros)
"I may only play this card if I am attacked by another mutant. The contested element of teh fight changes between Fire and Earth."

19 charakters (23 moons)

boosters:

- Rhul 19: 3/3 (2 moons) (Shadowblast)

- Rhul 20: 2/2 (1 moon) (Mask of Fear)

- Rhul 21: 1/1 special power text: (1 moon) (Impenetrable Fog)
"If I retreat, I may retrieve any one card from my combat area to my hand, except the impenetrable fog itself."

3 boosters (4 moons)

supports:

- Rhul 22: 2/2 (2 moons) (Bow of Darkness)

- Rhul 23: 1/2 special power text: (3 moons) (Amulet of Ghosts)
"Each of your active boosters increases the values of the amulet of ghosts by 1.

- Rhul 24: 1/1 (0 moons) (Green Dragon)

- Rhul 25: 0/1 special power text: (2 moons) (Book of Shadows)
"At the end of my turn I may draw 1 additional card."

- Rhul 26: special power text: (1 moon) (Ceremonie of Shadows)
"The values of one of my character cards with a shadow symbol doubles."

5 supports (8 moons)

leaderships:

- Rhul 27: Lunar Eclipse:
"In this turn I may play 2 shadow-charakters as a pair."
(1 moon)

- Rhul 28: Cast Darkness:
"Now I may draw as many cards from your hand until you've got only 5 left. Shuffle the drawn cards back into your draw deck."
(1 moon)

- Rhul 29: Destruction of Thoughts:
"Now I may discard all of your active cards with special power text."
(3 moons)

- Rhul 30: Cast Shadows:
"On this turn, your character cards are ignored, except Rhul character cards."
(2 moons)

- Rhul 31: Tame Holy Dragon:
"I may reveal 1 card from the top of my draw deck. Booster or support: either retrieve the card into your hand, or discard it to attract 1 dragon. Character or leadership: discard the drawn card."
(4 moons)

5 leaderships (11 moons)

33 cards, 46 moons

the shadow-symbol:
the shadow-symbol is a Rhul-specific function.

If you already played one or more character cards and there are no active boosters in your combat area, then at the beginning of the CHARACTER phase of your subsequent turn you can play one character card with a shadow symbol and add the values of the character card right under the shadow-card to the values of the shadow-character. Stagger the card partially on top of the otherone, so that all their values are visible. (Icons and special power texts are going to be ignored)

as soon as stizn and Randan have convertet the cards to "Thoth" we will run some tests...
The Rhul set will contain all the Rhul cards (except Rhul 09 and Rhul 29) and a mutant (mutant 111)
Al in all 31 cards (1 leader, 18 characters, 3 boosters, 5 supports, 4 leaderships)

feel free to ask some questions and to make some suggestions...

Re:Rhul
Redamikanas (#46734),
How come Rhul 11-17 have no special powers? This makes them unattractive to play. Any why they have no shield symbols?
And where does the word "Rhul" come from? We know that "Hoax" is from "Hoax", "Vulca" is from "Vulcan", "Flit" is from "Flight" or "Fleet", "Mimix" is from "Mimic", "Khind" is from "kind", "Terrah" if from "Terror", "Aqua" if from "Aqua", "Pillar" is from "Pillar".

Re:Rhul

Actually Flit is probably from the word flit, Terrah are definitely from the word terra, and I'm very not convinced that Pillar are based off the word pillar. More likely from pilfer or pillage.

As far as your question concerning those relatively weak cards - they all have the Shadow icon.

They do have a special symbol, the shadow-symbol.
Take a look at the botom of my other posting,
there you'll find the explanation for what it means.

and Rhul 17 has a special power text...

tw252 wrote:

I don't think that Terra comes from terror...
take a look at the french word "terre", which means Earth...
I don't know the correct latin word, but it would probably fit too...
and pillar is more likely to come from "pillage" as octavian alreday mentioned

back to the Rhul:
The "inventor" of the Rhul first came up with the idea that the main idea should be that they are in some way addicted to rules. So his first Charakter, and the very first card for the Rhul-set was "Paragraf der Unerbittliche" (paragraph the inexorable (I don't think that paragraph is the correct term, but what ever...)) with the special power text "You may only fight me back with exact 3 active cards in you combat- and supportarea and a total power of exact 7."
Rhul 10 is a less powerfull version of him...

also there was the "book of rules" with the special power text "Each of your active charakters increases the values of the book of rules by 1."
Rhul 23 is the new version of it...

then someone came up with the idea that the Rhul should be shadows, which is quite easier to illustrate (and find pictures for) than a bunch of rule-fanatics

so the Name Rhul comes from rule

oh and by the way:
the list I posted here already isn't up to date anymore
we (I) made some changes after the first 2 test-games..
they had no chance against Hoax and Vulca laugh

No the cards aren't finished yet...
after our changes they're to strong now

you'll find the old german cards here:

http://www.rohde-online.org/html/bmol_downloads.html

rightclick on the "download"-button next to the text saying "BM V3 Spielkarten (Standart + Rhul)" and then save target as...

I'm a little bit busy at the moment so the new cards are going to take a little bit longer...

There is a hint in the FAQ (see the one about pronunciation) about where my best guess as to where Hyla comes from. But I don't know if it's right or just a remarkable coincidence. And it's possible that the information is no longer available - material in this area came principally from Reiner Knizia, David Farquhar and Kevin Jacklin. And David Farquhar is no longer with us.
