Did anyone else enter the Hippodice Board Game Design Contest

http://www.hippodice.de/inhalt.php?pg=601&lang=en

The deadline was Nov 1. I emailed my game, "Let's Play Doctor!" but I have not heard back from them and was wondering if anyone else had.

Please feel free to post the name of your entries here and we can use this thread to update any of those who were selected.

My entry is Wheels of Steel a train game inspired by the PC game Railroad Tycoon and in no way similar to the Eagle Games game.

Edit: You won´t receive a confirmation of your entry until they order a copy / prototype of the game.

I received an email back from them today after inquiring, and they said they were still reviewing all the entries they received. They were hopeful that they would be notifying all the participants next week.

Good to hear, I was getting worried.

I've entered Genji, a game of romance and poetry set in Heian period Japan. You can click my BGDF microbadge then surf to the Board Game Designers' Forum Hippodice entries...

Today I received the following Mail soblue
Games Authors´ Competition 2007 Bochum, 19.11.07

Dear Author,

thank you for your interest in the 20th Games Authors´ Competition of the Hippodice Spieleclub e. V..

We regret to let you know, however, that your game/games did not qualify for actual test playing.
This years´ limit was at a mark of 3,1 on an 6-mark-scale.

This year again we had more than 175 entries, but can handle only a limited number of games for actual test playing.
There’s just not time enough to test play more than that, otherwise there wouldn´t be ample time for through test playing of each game.

We hope for your understanding and would be pleased about any future application of yours, despite this negative notice.

Kind regards

Hippodice Spieleclub e. V.

I also got the same email. I emailed them back to see if they would release my score so that I could take it into consideration for improving the game. I'll keep my fingers crossed for some feedback.

FYI, I was also told that they have selected "over 35" out of "over 175".

They sent me my score which was 3.66 on a 6-mark scale with the cutoff being 3.1. So I presume 1 is the best?

Anybody else get scores back?

And Martin, congratulations! Can you tell us a little bit about your game?

Did they mention how they derived the scores?

Without any idea it makes doing anything with the game or entering again difficult. If I know what needs improving I can send it in again next year. Though as far as i can tell if you get through they will send back a breakdown of the game but you can't resubmit and if it doesn't get through you dont' get a breakdown of the game.

Ohh well If I can find the styles and concepts of other games that got through I'll have to work it out from that.

I finally got a decline message. When I asked, 'Ohana Proa's score was 3.33 against the cutoff of 3.1.

This years? limit was at a mark of 3,1 on an 6-mark-scale.

Alltogether we get over 175 games this year.

Best regards Frank

That seems quite reasonable to me. Since the submission I've made a few clarity changes to the rules, but don't see much else more to do. I'm happy with the game as-is. Now as to how well Splatter my Children does next year? I'm not holding my breath.

We got the acceptance email! Is it true that they only accepted 35 games this year? It's going to be close for us to be able to send the proto on time..

Thanks David!

That's it exactly! I'll be writing a "making of" I think... it was a process that spanned many moons and an entire globe. I'm so excited, my wife is worried my head will explode!

Thank you! OK, so it's called Solaria. It features area control (with the areas being planets - represented by coasters - moving around the board in orbits), limited actions and some resource management. A new game entry has recently been added to BGG for the game, which includes a summary (there will hopefully be a few session reports and other information added later on).

I really like the ideas in 'Ohana Pao and I've read most of your blog about it at BGDF, but I worried about the length being a factor. Good marks, though!

Dylan, Martin: 'grats to both of you. Best of luck!

BTW, love Solaria's high concept. This definitely looks like something I would try out. Will you be posting any more info about it?

Yeah, that might have been been a problem. Not many German games exceed 120 minutes.

Thanks for this! Absolutely. Just post any comments, questions, etc. in Solaria's forum, and I will do my best to answer and follow up!
