Whew...

The fact it doesn't play 2 is one of the reasons that I haven't bought this yet.

You had me worried there for a moment. meeple

We need a red flag that means "I fell for this practical joke, and I am not amused!"

Ditto.

Except that I found it a little funny.

No, you got me. I must say, this is a much better practical joke than the one just played on Agricola. shake

OK, I found it a bit funny too. But officially, I am not amused.

Here is a video detailing a two-player Die Macher variant.
I'm not sure how well it'll work, but it's better than nothing at all.

That's fitting - This has been my one and only rickroll. I happened to have been rickrolled earlier in the day, (also my first experience with the phenomena) and thought I should 'pay it forward' so to speak.

Actually there is a 2-player variant that isn't too bad. You play with 2 "dummy" parties, so you can end up with no actual player winning some of the elections, and there are coalition possibilities. I found it on Joe Mueller's Die Macher site here:http://tinyurl.com/2g9mqh with a lot of other good material.
