Subject: [Unity_Games] UNITY GAMES XIV - January 26, 2008
It's... coming!
We have booked and signed the contract for UGXIV - our 14th big Unity Games event! I'm psyched... the place is the same Wakefield Colonial ballroom - with the extra extended area opened up for even more gaming room. This will be our biggest event yet! Don't miss it - prepays are ready to be taken in person or via Paypal - see the UGXIV website here:
http://www.unitygames.org/ugxiv/ugxiv.htm
The event takes place Saturday, January 26, 2008. This is the weekend before the Superbowl... be sure to wear lots of Patriots stuff! I'm also hoping for some birthday cake... woo-hoo!

For those who haven't been before, this is a great event, 15 hours of open gaming for only $10 (pre-pay up to 2 weeks before, else $15 at the door)! And plenty of friendly folks, you need not know a soul going in.
The Wakefield, MA location is also right off of I-95 (aka Rt. 128) a couple exits away from I-93. Commuter rail from Boston (and beyond) is also available.

Between 300 and 350 if past growth trends continue and we don't get a snow storm.
We typically get much better attendance at the winter event than we do at the summer event.

Re: Unity Games XIV (14) will be Jan. 26, 2008 in Wakefield,
I'm a relative new comer to boardgames (or, at least, the games most discussed here). Will Unity Games be a good way to learn and play more games, or will it just be me slowing other people's fun down? In other words, how newbie friendly is it?

Phil and his volunteers will be running the teaching area again from I think 10am-2pm so you can learn some new games first.
I consider it relatively newbie friendly. I think I've been to 4 so far, and always game with folks I didn't know before (easy to do with 300+ expected this time).
Looking at the games you own, like Goa, Ra, Carcassonne: Hunters and Gatherers, etc, you should have no problem.

There are a ton of new gamers that came to the winter one that I remember. People were willing to teach new gamers how to play all the time. Just remember, if you want to play something, poke people standing around and ask! It's that simple! See you there!

Does that mean there is a schedule of events? We've been before but generally show up late afternoon. We're coming again this year and can't wait!

Does that mean there is a schedule of events? We've been before but generally show up late afternoon. We're coming again this year and can't wait! I am still finalizing the schedule for the Teaching Area, and should be posting it in a week. Each game is allocated a 2-hr timeslot, and most often a teacher is able to conduct two sessions in this period. The Teaching Area is active between 9:30 - 3:30. I am addressing some late additions, as well as trying to juggle the schedule to make it more balanced.
I look forward to seeing you at UG! Come early, play often!!

jeanvabu wrote: Does that mean there is a schedule of events? Also just to be clear... the teaching area is the only area that is scheduled. Even during the time the teaching area is open, the bulk of the gaming is open unscheduled gaming.
And less than 3 weeks away!

UG XIV will be held in Wakefield at the Sheraton Colonial, the same site as for UG XIII.

UGXIV is in Wakefield.
I believe we were in Framingham for events 8-12, but we have since outgrown the space there.
Check out http://www.unitygames.org/ugxiv/ugxiv.htm for all of the details.
