I would like to see that companies fabricating the board games start ataching, a small video , on a CD or DVD that would explain the the basic rules and short demo of the game.
It took me 2 hours to figure it out a game,
and than at least 5 more games before we found all the mistakes of our gameplay.
Ilove learning and trying new games, but sometimes it is a conceptual horror.
The video could also contain elements of the story, music, demos, and etc.

Cheers To all the Gamegeeks.

That is a great idea that companies should start incorporating. Thumbing through a rulebook is one thing, but actually havign a dvd that goes through a turn would be amazing.

It would probably be more financially feasible to just have some file available for download from the publishers website.
Currently it is relatively common for the publishers to post PDFs of the rules; and some publishers (I'm thinking of Fantasy Flight) produce promotional videos.
A publisher producing similar videos with rules explanation (at least the basics) would therefore seem possible.
I think actually including a CD in the box might be cost prohibitive (yes I know some games [Valley Games edition of Die Macher] include CDs).
But an online video seen just as useful to me.

Never considered this before, but with an enclosed CD or DVD the package might qualify for Media mail rates when sent via USPS. This would cut a big chunk on shipping costs.

You only get Media Mail rates if there's nothing in the package other than media.
