They are having a big sale and all the Armada stuff is heavily discounted. They have a very limited number of full sets for only $20 each. I picked up a complete set of everything myself so hurry if you want one.

I've always been interested in this game since at one time I was a big collector of DiskWars. But since I no longer let myself buy collectible games anymmore I never got it. Now that they are offering complete sets and at a fantastic price I finally broke down.

At one time I had a free complete set of Red Alert I got years ago when I used to work for a company doing Trek games. I am so kicking myself for not keeping it. shake This will have to do!

http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/

EDIT- FFG is out of complete base & expansion sets.

I have the four starters and a bunch of boosters from years ago. I really like the boxes the starters came in. I never did get all the expansions though. I always wished I had more control panels!

Great to hear! I ordered one each of the complete sets of base and expansion. And ordered 1 each of the starters, 2 of the expansion packs (so I have 2 copies of those rules), and Stellar Matter. It cost me $77.25 with shipping. That's a crapload of stuff for a great price. Considering what it would of cost originally I feel its a bargain.

Doesn't sound like you need duplicates of ships though having the starters will give a few dups. One thing I didn't like about the later DiskWars sets is you had to get dups as many had special powers only if you had more. And the Stellar Matter pack gives you 6 more ship control sheets which is probably the only thing you need more of.

Nice...I wound up getting:
3 Letnev Starters
3 Hacan Starters
3 Sol Starters
3 Sardakk Norr Starters
6 Stellar Matter Expansions
1 Incursion complete set
1 INcursion booster display.

I'll probably have 12 kids in the club who can buy the starters off of me. I'll sell them each two extra control panels so that they could each field three ships if htey wanted to.
It'll be very cheap for them, which is great.
I'll also have 12 extra control panels, so that won't be an issue for my own stuff. LOts of extra debris and terrain tiles, and cheap boosters for the kids to expand their stuff.

Wow, that is a lot! You should be set for everything. Though were they out of the base complete set when you ordered? I noticed today that the base set is now sold out. Glad I got it when I did. There were only 4 left after I purchased. Talk about cutting it close!

I did put in a note in the order that if for some reason the base or expansion complete set wasn't available to cancel the whole order. Didn't see a reason to buy it if those weren't in the order, especially the base game. Even though they had a few left at purchase time I've had issues with other online companies that order counts were off and they actually didn't have any left.

Just wish I could find the PDF rules so I could read up on the game while I wait!

Question for those familiar with the game:

Any opinions on what to get for someone new to the game?
I was thinking one each of the Starters plus the Stellar Matter expansion for sure.
Would it be better to get:
-A display pack of 16 Incursion boosters OR
-The complete set of Incursion flats OR
-The complete set of Basic flats (and maybe one or two Incursion boosters)

[Have to be a BIT selective. Since I already dropped an order for some of the other $5 specials, I'd be risking bad wife karma by just buying it all...shake]

Is buying one of the complete flat sets overkill or just a way to ensure getting all the 'good stuff'?
Is there any advantage to getting duplicate items, as would surely happen from getting a bunch of individual booster packs?

Thanks.

I'd get one of each starter for sure. Each one comes with a control panel, ships for that faction with crew and technology, and random flats of that and other factions that you could always trade away. Stellar matter is cool because it is currently cheap, and the only way I know to get extra control panels w/o buying extra starter sets. INcursion is great because it introduces missiles, which can be used to destroy torpedoes and squadrons. Before missiles, the only way to destoroy these things was with escorts, and not everbody had escorts.

Remember each ship ( except fighters and bombers ) needs a control panel. Control panels are your friends! Stellar matter comes with 6. So if yo had four starters and one Stellar matter, you'd have 10 control panels.

Getting an incursion display is a little cheaper, but you might not get everything in it...pretty close probably.

I opted not to get the original flats as I had quite a few of the original disks anyway. I had next to none of the incursion though.

Duplicates are tricky. Some ships are unique and only one can be present in a game. Many ships are not unique, and although they look exactly the same as other disks, they have a white space where you can print the special name you designate for it.
Cheers
P.

I thought these things were long OOP. Are these sets and boosters currently for sale warehouse extras?

I collect the Star Trek: Red Alert game, although I've never actually played!

If I wanted to get into this game, what would you recommend me getting from Fantasy Flight? I'm worried about not having any boosters for the main set, but a bunch of Incursion boosters, for instance. Would that be a big deal?

Thanks!

It is kind of a bummer that they are out of the complete sets now. You are right, no basic set boosters so your only option is to buy the starters.

I suppose if you just wanted a taste of the game to buy all 4 starters, maybe some expansion boosters and Stellar Matter. That's maybe $30 worth. Then watch eBay for booster sales of the basic set to flesh it out. The price is darn cheap and that would give you some to play with at least for now.

Thanks for the reply, Scott! I ordered $55.00 worth ;-)

A question about the expansions:

It seems that Stellar Matter is a "basic expansion set" plus boosters. Is Incursion the same way, with a "basic set" then boosters or just boosters?

I may have this all flubbed up... ;-)

No,
Stellar Matter is basically a terrain expansion. Asteroids, space stations, planets, etc...the rules to use with them, and 6 more control panels. There are no faction ships, although I think a few specialty ships to go along with new scenarios. There are no boosters for Stellar Matter. All Stellar Matter packs are the same.
Incurion, whcih introduces missiles and other things, offers new ship classess, and other stuff for the factions, and comes in booster packs only.

You will have tonnes of ships, crew, and tech for all four factions then, and six control panels from Stellar Matter.
So if you play with three people, each can control two ships.

Is there any reason that the control panels couldn't be photocopied, or just improvised?

Yeah, you could photocopy, or scan, and mount on thick cardboard, but you'd also need extra tokens for the shields, hull, etc. to mark their current levels. They could easily be improvised as well.

I'll check with FFG if its ok to scan the control panel and support counters and offer it as a PDF download.

I can't see why they'd care and its the only major complaint that players are usually short on those. But then the Stellar Matter terrain expansion has 6 included and only $5 each so maybe its a moot point.

Just got an email today that my mega Armada from FFG has shipped! So hopefully either later this week or next I'll have a huge bunch of ships to punch! 100's of flats to punch is going to take some time!

And then there's organizing them by race and type. Why do I put myself in these situations!

EDIT- showing up on Monday based on UPS tracking info. Huzzah!

I ordered a full set of both the base and expansion sets. Looking forward to getting this game as we enjoyed the Red Alert game and it's good to know that the games are mostly compatible. Do you think the full sets of flats will include a copy of the game rules? Especially for the Incursion set since the rules for the base set are available from BGG.

I don't think the rules come with the full sets. I ordered 1 of each starter and 2 expansion boosters just to have copies of the rules. It seems the starters also include a ref card which we don't have a PDF version of. I'll probably scan it in and upload it here for those that don't have it. The PDF manual has poor quality icons so without that ref card it will be hard to read the symbols.

After reading some of the reviews and posts here, I realized the need for extra control panels so I ordered a couple of the Stellar sets to make sure there were enough. I also added one starter set to get the rules and ref. card. Hopefully some kind soul will scan the Incursion rules.

Definately...the ref card that come in each starter is awesome and a big plus. I don't have a scanner (yet ) otherwise I'd do the Incursion rules thing.

Just as an FYI, the complete flat sets do not contain rules.

EDIT: After closer examination the Incursion set does come with a rule insert/reference sheet.
