We played 5th Ave. for the first time last night. We were a little confused on the rules for auctioning in Central Park. I understand that the active player starts with a color card of their choice. However, the rules further state that they can combine that card with a black card. Then a little further it states that all bidders must bid in the same color as the beginning bidder.

The question is . . . is the Central Park auction just like all other auctions expect that all bidders must bid in the same color plus any black cards? Or, is the beginning bidder the only player that can combine black cards with the color card of choice? Or, can black cards only be used by the beginning bidder along with the color card of choice only to start the bid?

We decided to treat the Central Park auction just like all other auctions except all bidders must follow suite and bid in the same color as the beginning bidder, plus black cards.

Does anyone have any other thoughts?

Re:Rule Clarification
terrymmoto (#51102),

We play auctions at Central Park the way you do. I'm pretty certain you're playing correctly.

Re:Rule Clarification
terrymmoto (#51102),

this is correct.
Whomever the starting player winds up being (if the auction starter passes, the next player, etc.) chooses a card with a color to start off the auctions. He can add to that, if he desires a black card...the other auctioneers follow in order to raise the bid by playing at least a card of the previously chosen color. Black cards may add to that as well.
The main difference here between CP and the regular building sites is that in CP all auctioneers follow the one, single chosen color by the starting player.
In the other auctions, each player chooses and foloows their OWN color choice (being consistent) as that also dictates which color site they will build on.
CP has no "building site color", you just place the building on the park and wait for the big finish

Hope that was clear...
