Gail, Nathan, Bonnie and I decided to play an old favorite that had not been off the shelf this year, Manhattan. The Mayfair rules offers a couple of variants:
1) Godzilla where you move a monster around the board according to your card. Godzilla destroys the complete building in the space he enters.
2) Baby Godzilla (Godzuki?) where the monster only destroys the top piece of the building.
3) We decided to play a variant on the variants: Teen Godzilla where the monster destroys every level of the building except the very first. Buildings with only one piece are untouched by the monster.
The game turned out to be very close. Everyone seemed to pick on how the teenage Godzilla moved fairly quickly. Using our variant made placing the first level of a building more valuable than it usually is. Upper levels of the building could be knocked down by the rampaging monster. Everyone had fun.
