That's the official forecast for Melbourne (Australia) today "very hot and sunny", top of 42C (107.6F) expected, it is current about 38 just before 2 pm. Oh and we also have a day of Total Fire Ban for the Central Total Fire Ban district, which includes the Melbourne metropolitan area.

In local forecast lingo, it needs to be 36 C or more to be classified hot.

We tried to go out for Margaritas on Saturday (I think it was around 38?) but our local Taco Bill's is closed until January

Margaritas you make yourself are just that much more delicious. I make mine the old fashioned way: I just drink Tequila from the bottle until I pass out and my face lands in a bowl of salt that I've positioned appropriately. This triggers a pressure plate that knocks a glass of nearly-fresh lime juice over on a shelf just above my head. The juice runs over my mostly bald head down into my eyes which awakens me violently enough so that I jerk my head up and scream just in time to catch the remaining lime juice in my throat. I ignore all that other crap that people put in Margaritas.

You know, that setup would probably be possible tonight.

But I have raspberry yoghurt icecream chilling in the kitchen, which I suspect is my commitment to frozen food and drink this year. Quite possibly it will be more of a drink as I suspect it's too hot for the icecream to actually set.

Suspicion confirmed, more of a rasberry sludge. It is still expected to be 30C at midnight (in two and half hours), a warm start to 2008, but given that it is 36C at the moment I doubt it will drop that far. We topped at 41.1 today.

Taco Bill's (no relation to Belle) are basically alcoholic granitas or slurpies. Very nice, especially on a night like tonight!

Very Dry usually although before Christmas it was quite hot 36°C and Humid and wet which was unusual. I am glad to have moved to Melbourne where it is cooler during the day than at Bendigo at this time of year.

FYI, for the few who have need for such things:

For those seeking a mnemonic device for Celcius/Fahrenheit conversions, by watching bank time and temperature signs I note that -12 c. is +12 f.

Yeah the formula is: (n°C)*1.8+32= whatever F so the 30°C at midnight will be 86F... mmm no sleep tonight I figure!

Too damn hot.

Is Melbourne generally dry or humid this time of year.

Usually very dry, relative humidity has been around 15-20% today, contrasting with Sydney's 77%, but it is only 22C there.

-40C = -40F for another fun figure

So what's a 36-24-36 in metric?

Much more impressive

And it is still 32.6 at 1:30 am, which is OK during the day, but at night...

Much, much more impressive, since the metric (SI) unit is the Kelvin, and you need to add 270-odd to the degrees Celsius figure...

New Years forecast here is (all Farenheit) a high of 15 with most of the day in single digits. Low of 2, with wind chills around -15.

A bit nippy, but I think I actually prefer this over the 100+ temps.

Confirmation for those locals if you thought it was hot night last night, overnight min was 28.1 at 7:02 am. Roll on that cool change this afternoon.

Now that we have had the official sleep, Happy New Year everyone!

It's been in the high 70's in the day and 60's at night (F). Can't really hate this weather, although I'm waiting for colder weather to come any day.
