I've searched extensively on BGG and the internet in general to identify I game I got for Christmas in 1992. The game mechanic used cards and a handful of colored pawns (if I remember correctly) and was a mystery set in an elevator or an apartment/office building or somesuch. The art style was somewhat reminiscent of Ravensburger's Top Secret Spies. I seem to remember that the cards represented different people who may or may not have been spotted in the elevator: a lady with a dog, etc.

The game was packaged in a snug box that was approximately 4"x4"x8". I remember it being fun, but apparently it wasn't fun enough to not end up in a garage sale.

Does this ring a bell for anyone?

I think the game is Paternoster. Our version is called Vanished.
