18AL is a railgaming kit for the 1830 game system that permits players to play 1830-style games in the state of Alabama. Designed by veteran 18XX'er Mark Derrick, 18AL was developed to give newer players an introduction to the 18XX genre and let them grow into longer games like 1830 or 1870. In reality, he has made a very good game 18XX game that can be played within three hours. With a very well done map, surplus Mayfair 1830 tiles, laminated cards, it is fairly well produced for a strictly non-commerically published gamekit. Giving solid play with no clear runaway train company or private railroad, 18AL is a must for any railgamer looking for a shorter, but solid game. I give 18AL an A.
