It is curious Shogi has a number of variants, Tori Shogi through to huge board versions, and FIDE chess has dozens of variants yet Xiangqi doesn't seem to have any, unless I've missed something.

Are there any recognized variants? I did find "Little Dragon Chess" on chessvariants site that appears playable, but very recent smaller board option.

There are both, a smaller board variant: Mini Xiang Qi from 1973 ...

... and a "big one", simulating the war of the seven kingdoms, for seven players: Qi Guo Xiang Qi from around the year 1200:

There's also a traditional three-player version that was mentioned and illustrated in Murray's 1913 book, A History of Chess. The board's outline was hexagonal.

Remember Korean Chess is very similar, I think I like it even more.
