Art, the owner of the publishing firm, L2 Design Group, indicates he hopes to publish the game in the late spring of 2008. From a design, development, and testing standpoint the game is complete, just awaiting final art and printing. I am hoping no later than fall of 2008 myself, but one never knows. If you want this to come along as fast as possible, please head on over to the L2 site and put down a pledge to indicate your interest in the game. L2 no longer takes funds for games before they are about to be printed, so pledging is a no cost action.

Update on this. Art the head of L2 says he is working on the artwork now and Lembit, his able assistant, is getting the rules booklet in order. Publication '"sooner rather than later" looking pretty good, Art says.

I have been working with Lembit as he formats the rules over to L2 style, and it is going very smoothly.

Posting from Art, the head of L2 Design Group, over in the L2 folder at CSW:

>"Grand Fleet has moved into the "NEXT" slot. Lembit is currently working on getting it ready to go to press. We are moving quickly on this as the GL issue is screwing with my summer schedule."

>"Grand Fleet will have the same style of counters as War at Sea - BIG."

>"Lembit tells me there are 4 sheets worth! OUCH. More on this in about a week as I get final quotes in etc. I will post more art in about a weeks time."

>"Art"

Lembit and I have finished the rules and play aids. As per the counters, I think it is 3 sheets of the extra large size ship counters and one sheet of the simply normally large size marker counters. The British and German navies had a lot of ships. And then there are the Russians, Americans, and French...

As the most recent update on GRAND FLEET in production, Art at L2 says it will not make it in time for WBC due to all the counter work required, but he still will have it out before the end of the summer. I think my guess of fall of this year is looking good.

Thx for the updates. I pledged this game in Feb 2006 so I certainly would like to see it this summer.

I think my 'this fall' guess is going to hold. The game is in art work stage now and Art tells me he will be putting it and ROMMEL'S WAR to print shortly.

Stephen, this is good news! Thanks for the updates.

GF is preordered. Sounds "grand" indeed!

Can you say more about what all is represented? Three sheets of counters sounds like more than just battleships and battle cruisers.

Are cruiser and destroyer/torpedo boat squadrons represented as well?

Oh yes. Aside from BBs and BCs, there are cruiser divisions, pre-dread divsions, destroyer/tb flotillas, submarine flotillas, and even airships.

Art and Lembit tell me (as of yesterday) that the plan is still to have it out before Xmas, which is, I guess, very late fall. So, keep your fingers crossed. cool

Just posted by Art, the owner of L2, the publisher for the game, over on CSW in his company support folder:

"Grand Fleet is also nearing completion. The counters artwork is 98% finished. I will post samples in the near future. Once the rules are laid out the game is ready to go. So, again, Pre-Pubbers will be asked to pay for the game some time before Christmas."

Stephen, If you want a veteran proofer to take one last look at the rules, I'll be happy to help. I've done that for a lot of other companies/games.

Thanks Kevin, but I think it is done now. I have had a number of people look things over, including the match between ship classes and the images used, and I think we are OK. It has been signed off and is off to printing now, I believe.

Hopefully you are not getting too excited. Latest word from Art, the owner of L2, is that the game is now moved back to publication in March '09 with cards to start being charged in Feb. '09. Oh well, so much for hoping for a 2008 release...

Art at L2 has listed a closing date on the pre-publication price and apparently is going to start charging cards shortly. If you want in on this before the regular price goes up, and it seems it will go up a lot (to $70, vs the pre-pub of $45), you might want to get in and sign up shortly. I believe the location for pre-order is down the page here:

No problem, hope you like it when eventually get it, so thank you for the order(s)!

Just an update for those of you that do not read the L2 folder on CSW, according to Art, he expects it to print late next month. The delay is due to a huge pile of personal problems he had and Lembit's health troubles. So we are still getting there, just slowly...
