Is there such a game? I've had a few game days where eveyone was playing and someone showed up later and had to sit and watch. It may just be the nature of board games, but what is a good game that can have someone break in while play has already started? Thanks.

If they already know how to play:
Ricochet Robots
SET
Bongo!

A lot of pattern recognition games can accommodate a jump in player...

Shadows over Camelothas rules that allow players to join in (or leave) while the game is in progress.

I was going to suggest Shadows also. We have had people join in and out many times. The games scales perfectly to the amount of people you have.

Arkham Horror.

You could also do this to a certain extent in Scepter of Zavandor. Give the person a few extra gems, and push them up their track a little. They are going to be at a big disadvantage, but that might be preferable to just watching.

Re: What's a good game where someone can break in the middle
Our gaming group likes Apples to Apples, but there are several rules that we don't follow:

1) No end unless we're actually done playing
2) People can join and leave as they like

It makes for a great "waiting" game.

Most cooperative or pseudo-cooperative games let you bring in a late player fairly well. Ones that pop to mind are:

Arkham Horror
Shadows over Camelot
Fury of Dracula (second edition) (on the hunter side)
Last Night on Earth: The Zombie Game (on the human side)

7 Ages was my suggestion as well.

Barbarian, Kingdom & Empire allows players to come and go within the game almost continuously.

I think dual of ages would work well too, if one of the players is willing to give up half of his characters for the other to play

We have had people leave/join Coloretto and TransAmerica at the end/beginning of a round. The new player's starting score is the average of the other players' scores at that point.

Carcassonne allows it pretty easily. Spike them some points and give them a fresh set of meeps and let them get into the mix.

Diamant

Chances are, even if you're halfway through the person who breaks in won't come in last! Plus, it's just a fun little game, more about the fun and the dynamics than the winning. Someone who jumps in can just immediately join in the fun!

Some or most party games might allow this... Zendo, Apples to Apples, Once Upon a Time (?), Why Did the Chicken...?, etc. I played Dual of Ages like this too.

You can jump in the middle of Jungle Speed, I think. If you already know the rules, anyway.

And, well Fluxx, but that's generally over pretty quick anyway...

I had a Geeklist on the subject: some games are Barbarian, Kingdom, and Empire, American Megafauna, Lords of the Renaissance, Lords of the Spanish Main, Lords of the Sierra Madre....
