OK. Solitaire PBF, I decided to helm the New England team while I gave the NYG to the solitaire coach. Expansion plays, professional time clock, the works.

Patriots start strong, hold on
GLENDALE, AZ (AP) -
The 1972 Miami Dolphins can put away their champagne, as Sunday witnessed the crowning of a new world champion, and featured the NFL's 2nd perfect season in the super bowl era.

The game was a microcosm of the season for both teams, as it got started with a bang for the Patriots, and an almost total disaster for the Giants. New England took the opening kickoff and drove down the field 55 yards to start off with a 3-0 lead. On the Giants first possession, Manning fumbled a sack on the third play from scrimmage, the Patriots pounded it into the end zone 2 plays later, and it looked like the rout was on. The Giants went three and out on their next possession, but managed to keep the Patriots out of scoring territory on their next drive and forced a punt. On the first play of the next possession Manning was sacked for a 13 yard loss at the New York 19, and the Patriots recovered and returned the ball to the 6 yard line for their 2nd possession inside the 10. The Giants, facing a 17-0 deficit in the first quarter stiffened, and forced a fumble at the 2 yard line which they recovered and returned out to the 10.

The turnaround seemed to give New York new life, as they mustered up a 54 yard drive, only to miss a 53 yard field goal. New England took over and Brady heaved it for a 44 yard completion, and the Patriots were in the red zone again. The Giants, though, held them to a field goal. 13-0.

On the next drive, the Giants got a nice kick return, and started from their own 42. They drove to the Patriots 25 and were able to finally get on the board with a 42 yard field goal. 13-3.

New England countered with a drive that ended in a 51 yard field goal to extend the lead back to 13. 16-3.

New York was forced to punt on their next possession, and the Patriots took over thinking to score some more points before half time. On first and 10 from the 29, the Giants were able to intercept Brady at the New England 49, and returned it to the 44. As time ran down in the half, Manning threw a deep TD pass from the 32 yard line on 3rd and 10, and suddenly the Giants were back in the game. 16-10. They kicked off to the Patriots, and the Patriots were unable to run another offensive play before halftime.

The Giants received the 2nd half kickoff, but were unable to score any points with it, and were forced to punt. The Patriots, though, missed a 48 yard field goal on their next possession and the Giants started their next drive with good field position. They worked their way down the field and were able to cut the deficit to 3 with a 28 yard field goal. 16-13.

New England took possession and Brady was 6/6 on the drive for 63 yards and a TD to open the lead back to 10. 23-13.

The Giants took the ball, were able to muster only one first down, and were forced to punt back to the Patriots. The Giants defense, meanwhile, shut down the Patriots offense, moving the Patriots backwards on the drive, and forcing a punt. A punt that was returned a long way. The Giants fielded the punt at the New York 24. The returned bobbed and weaved, making a few guys miss, and all of a sudden he only had the kicker to beat. Another 6, and the Giants score a breakaway TD! 23-20.

The Patriots took over with a poor kick return, and started the next drive from their 15. A short pass on 3rd and 8 led to the receiver breaking a couple of tackles, and then making the safety miss late! Another breakaway TD, this time of 83 yards! 30-20.

The Giants took the ball back, and Manning continued his stellar postseason play, going 4/4 on the next drive, including evading a sack for a 10 yard completion, and capping the drive with a 35 yard TD pass. 30-27.

The Patriots took the kickoff and wanted to grind the clock down. 2 runs netted them -3 yards on the first two plays, but Brady connected on another short pass of 33 yards on 3rd and 13. I was using the Giants timeouts here as seemed appropriate. The Giants managed to force a punt here, though, and timeouts and the two minute warning left time on the clock for one more drive. The punt was a good one, dropping it inside the 20 with no return for the Giants, so they had a long drive coming up, with 1:40 on the clock, no timeouts, and trailing by three.

1st and ten was an incompletion. 2nd and ten was a 3 yard gain. 3rd and 7 from the New York 21 was intercepted at the Giants 34 yard line and returned to the NY 4 yard line, with 50 seconds to go, and the endless pursuit of perfection was reached.

Note: I didn't find any rules for kneeling on the ball, so I ran it on two plays to end the game, and it scored the last TD. I figured there should be some chance for fumbling if they kneeled... maybe if all three dice were 1s or something.
