i ran a script to update everyone's name on cassy to match their name on bgg (there were some case issues for several names) and i also had it flag names that are in the cassy database, but not on bgg (so i could delete them) .

Stuey showed up as not existing on bgg!!

http://boardgamegeek.com/user/Stuey

he's gone?

anyone have know about this? his account is deleted from bgg as well as all of his posts!!

it appears that the last game he played was Matrix.

I am at a loss....

That's awful!
We have Cassy, but that means that a lot of historic games will now make no sense when read in chronological order. And Stuey was in some of the best.

NOBODY should delete their accounts! If people have to leave, say farewell but leave your footprint in the sand.

And preferably never leave, of course.

Of course.

angry RANT:

Sadly, the problem of deleted contributions is a failure of the powers that be (TPTB). This has been raised before many times, and they still don't seem like they're going to change it. It's beyond ridiculous in my opinion. Just like on every other internet site, the way it SHOULD be:

1. Users can delete their accounts anytime.
2. But, users should not be able to delete their contributions.
3. Deletions of any sort should require an admin and a damned good reason.

I may have a more extreme view than the majority on this, but even the less extreme agree that massive wholesale deletions of content should not occur ever.

It's even more devastating in these Werewolf games.

i agree with all of that.

when you hit 'submit', then you are taking part in a conversation. in RL you cannot go into peoples heads and delete things that you have said (sometimes i wish i could though) and forums should be the same way.

and when you put stuff on the net, it never really goes away. just like the posts are still in cassy, just not on bgg. it just makes reading the games harder, to no good effect.

Did no one have an email address for him?

It's sad to hear that. And I agree with GrimJester's assertions about deleting content. Imagine if wikipedia had the same policy!

It grieves me to see a werewolf go like that.

Maybe we should ask our friendly nieghborhood admins and see if they know anything about it.

I need to find my sign that says that I agree with grimjester...

Re: Where did Stuey go????
Stuey did delete his account on his own accord due to personal reasons.

All is well with him, if you wish to have his contact feel free to geekmail me.

I just found a few geekmails Stuey and I exchanged and its creepy that there is no avatar, but his quotes are intact.

Anyway, sorry you had to go, Stuey. Hope life is still very good for you.

Re: Where did Stuey go????
Well that explains a few things.

I was just reading through A Clash of Kings (thinking about A Storm of Swords) and some of the pages were making NO sense. Well, a lot of pages made no sense from a BSC point of view, but several made no sense from a readability standpoint. Then I got to the end and the thread stopped four pages early. Page count said 99 but there were no posts beyond page 95.

Take care Stuey, wherever you may be.

Re: Where did Stuey go????
Would it be a massive burden to put a 'read game' functionality into Cassie sometime which would sort the posts into chronological order for this sort of thing?

It would still not be same as thread, because of (for example) edited posts, which cassie would not pick up. But it would maintain the catalogue better.

Yep, if you go to a game page and click on the total number of posts on the players grid (not for individuals but on the top line) it will show them in order.

yeah they are right.

but what I probably need to do is add a Paging feature, so you don't get all 2K posts on one page

Re: Where did Stuey go????
or dump 'em to a pdf file that is then available for download (so you only get the server load of creating it once)

Of course, this assumes that storage is cheaper than server processing time, but I understand that to be the case.

we've lost another one:

Ze Weeg appears to have deleted his bgg account and with it all of his content, so the games he modded and played in are messed up on bgg. the content is still archived in cassy though.
