All I knew about Kenny Chesney was that he was married to that Bridgette Jones actress for about 2 minutes. But then I bought my Country Music loving husband a new cd called Songs for my Ute, and he has a song on it called "Anything but Mine" and at first I didn't know who was singing it, just that I liked it. But then I downloaded the cd into my iTunes and I realise it is his song.

So, what else should I listen to? I already love the Dixie Chicks, and The Sunny Cowgirls are great. (Sunny Cowgirls are Australian.)

Am I a freak?

Don't forget, I still love my NIN, Chemical Brothers, PJ Harvey, Clouds, Joni Mitchell, R.E.M, Spearhead, Jurassic 5 etc etc etc. I will listen to almost anything!

ps - I don't like Toby Keith, who is also on this cd. And Adam Harvey is a bit of a worry too. Oh, and Faith Hill = Meh.

Congratulations on coming out and saying you like country and music, I sure as hell don't but it is really great that you can say it.

Kudos for Chemical Brothers and J5, but thumbs down for PJ Harvey

While we are confessing, I like David Bowie's early work stuff that was around before I was born. I also like Kanye West's version of Daft Punk's Harder Better Faster Stronger, which is tantamount to sacrilege! I also like a band called Transglobal Underground who just play an eclectic mix of African and oriental music, and their track Guns of Navaronne is one of my favourite songs ever!

Embrace the musical freak in you. I know I have!

Kenney Chesney is excellent. I will always recommend Brad Paisley to anybody.

I'm Gonna Miss Her

is a good example of his comical songs (of which there are plenty greats, including an all time favorite Alcohol)

Beyond comical songs he also has sweet songs, including my favorite "She's Everything"

I'd also have to recommend Alan Jackson, but he has so many amazing songs I wouldn't know where to begin except for the obvious Chatahoochi

Those two are great. And I couldn't call myself a country fan without rattling off Garth Brooks. Yeah, he represents everything evil about country music but he's too good:

"Beaches of Cheyenne"
"She's Every Woman"
"Callin' Baton Rouge"
"The Thunder Rolls"
"Much Too Young (to feel this damn old)"

And the indomitable "Friends in Low Places" still possibly the most popular country song

I'm not much of a country fan, but my wife is and I bought Paisley's latest for her. I have to admit there were some pretty good songs on there--and he's a good guitarist, as well.

That is the way to go! I like *something* in just about all genres of music except a capella where people are tying to sound like instruments. That makes my head want to explode.

As far as country stuff my absolute favorite is Dwight Yoakum. I also really like Lyle Lovett.

Enjoy!

I have always enjoyed CW, R&R, Metal (some of it), Blues and the standard classical and instrumental stuff most people like. But CW is the most appealing to me for casual listening.

Except, I'm not a Kenny Chesney fan. Which puts me in the minority of CW fans.

I agree that Brad Paisley is very talented. So are Travis Tritt (lots of serious blues and R&B chops in his style), George Strait, Brooks & Dunn, Keith Urban and that newer guy... what's his name... Blake Shelton... a fantastic voice and excellent choice in songs.

I recommend anyone who is seeking new music to listen to simply follow the lead of my 5 year old boy. He is a bright lad who has been overcoming a fairly serious speech impediment and has now worked his way into singing along with the radio in my truck. Here's his current playlist:

Johnny Cash - Folsom Prison Blues
Brooks & Dunn - I believe
Reba McIntyre - anything she does
Kelly Clarkson - see above
The gorgeous blonde former American Idol gal - anything she does
Korn - Coming Undone
Josh Turner - Anything he does
AC/DC - All of it
The Wiggles - Everything they do, over and over and over...

And wasn't it that Renee Zeilweiger person that Chesney married?

Dwight Yoakam, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Randy Travis. Those are my favorite country guys. Also, an Alan Jackson greatest hits CD should be in anyone's collection.

Lyle Lovett. But that's it, as far as country music for me.
