Hello all,

I am looking for a wargame just like Demonworld.
My problem is that I currently do not have a gaming party,
so I will try to convince my friends to play it.
Demonworld is too expensive to "try". What if they dont like it ?

The other one I like is Battleground, but this does not have
figurines, as far as I can understand.

Is there any other game like those, with inexpensive plastic
figurines ? I prefer fantasy theme but its not a requirement.

A battle should complete in 1-2 hours.

Thanks a lot in advance people,

Dimitris

It's fun, it's healthy, it's good exercise. The kids will just love it. And we put a little sand inside to make the experience more pleasant.

You know, they say there was a man who jumped from the forty-FIFTH floor? But that's another story...

I don't know how much Demonworld costs, but from what I can tell here on the Geek, you don't actually need the figures to play Demonworld. It comes with the counters that you need to play it. You could just get the base game and try it. If you like it, then start buying the miniatures. If you don't like it, you are not out that much.

Battleground doesn't have minis, as you say, but it does play like a minis game. It's a great game, inexpensive, and worth a look.

Thanx people, Battlelore looks just like what I wanted.
Battleground is also worth trying. I will try one out of the two.

I already have the introductory version of Demonworld (the one with
the flat paper hexed units). Its nice to play 2-3 times, but it has
very few units.

Another question please: are there pens that can paint those minis?
I mean not with a brush and a bottle of paint (too time consuming,
I prefer playing than painting).

Thanks again people

I was thinking Heroscape as well - pre-painted minis; easy to learn; cool 3-D maps!

Invest 4$ online in Song of Blades and Heroes, print out the pdf and you can start playing immediately with any miniatures you want. It's fantasy - no army wargame, but skirmishes (about 15 figs per side, should keep the costs low). Lots of fun.

There are fine-lined permanent markers, but they're quite expensive - I tried this route once, but didn't like the results at all (I suck at painting).

Turned out that the best way for me was a VERY rough paint job (basic colurs, one fleshtone blob in the face etc.) and then dip it in dark brown wood stain. Wood stain is very cheap to get, brings out the details on the fig quite nice, but leaves a "dirty" look which IMO fits a fantasy setting perfectly well.

Miniature painters are joking about this technique, but after all, I'm - like you - a gamer, not a painter.
