Some interesting news: Finnish publisher Lautapelit.fi announced this week (11.2) that they will publish Knizia's classic Modern Art for the Scandinavian market.

On their site it is said that they have planned and prepared this edition for a long time and that the game visuals will see a complete makeover, and they go on to suggest that what we will see is something "completely original". Interesting to see if there's anything more to this than a visual upgrade. Great news none the less.

They're going to use actual art.

Yeah, I've seen pictures and it's absolutely gorgeous. I don't think there's any changes in the game mechanics, but the whole look of the game is redone.

Why is it that I learn of something like this the day after I buy the game?

I got also a sneak peek on the components and cards and I must say I was really impressed.

Some examples of the art can be found here:

This looks great. I liked Mike Doyle's art, but this edition looks equally beautiful and functional. Any recommended gaming stores in Finland to order this from, if placing my order from the U.S.?

Yes, Mayfair Games needs to make different versions with REAL artists. I want to be able to teach art students about famous artworks and not the phony ones in the game. Give us one with Rauschenberg, Lichtenstein, Warhol, Pollock and Picasso. But, I guess it is harder to get the rights for those artists. Shame.

Dang, I started looking at the website and it looks (from the country box in the shopping cart) like they won't ship to USA. Have any fellow yanks tried to get this?

Anyone have any success getting this version? I tried contacting lautapelit but haven't gotten a response yet.

Also: anyone want to comment on the relative beauty of this edition versus the Brazilian Mike Doyle version?

Thanks
