Intrigued and thinking of taking plunge by searching out some viking and oriental ships. Are these 2 factions solid choices?

What ships would make a good starting flotilla?

thanks

I haven't gotten into either of those factions. I really like the british ships. American and Pirate factions are others I really enjoy as well.

The vikings are a great fleet to play. They get 2 cannon shots per mast, but they are weak in that they have at most 3 masts.

The oriental faction, Jade Rebellion, is from the South China Seas expansion, which is impossible to get a hold of these days, as it is out of print. If you just like the look of the junks, I would suggest getting the Ocean's Edge set, as they have made a reappearance there.

But are the Jade ships good? You can always buy on ebay?

Also if I buy single ships, how many are need for a reasonable game?

Beside single ships, is there some kind of starter set you need to play?
