Just for giggles, I'm posting a session of Sink the Tirpitz:
At the beginning of the game, the Tirpitz is in pristine condition.
Jan 28/29, 1942 - RAF attempts to bomb Tirpitz to kingdom come. RAF bombers spot the Tirpitz and begin their attack. The RAF bombers seem to be having a bad day and they inflict no damage at all.
Mar 6-13, 1942 - the Tirpitz sorties and the Royal Navy decides to take a crack at it. The Royal Navy's pilots spot the Tirpitz and attack. And hit nothing. The Royal Navy home fleet decides to take a crack at the Tirpitz. It would help if they could find the blasted thing. Royal Navy submarines also fail to find it. Tirpitz returns to port with no damage.
Mar 30/31, 1942 - the RAF again attempts to bomb Tirpitz. They finally manage to cause some damage, inflicting two points on the Tirpitz. The Germans fail to repair the damage.
April 27/28, 1942 - the RAF returns but inflicts no damage at all due to shoddy bombing. The Germans leave the Tirpitz as it is - apparently, bomb damage is in vogue in the German navy.
July 2-7, 1942 - the Tirpitz sorties again, intent on causing some mischief. The Fleet Air Arm tries to take a crack at it. They find it but utterly fail to damage it. Home fleet bumbles around trying to find it but fails. The Royal Navy's submarines are also utterly luckless. Tirpitz returns to port and, again, no repairs are done on the Tirpitz. What is up with the German navy?
Oct 29, 1942 - the Royal Navy attempts to sink the Tirpitz using frogmen in chariots - the frogmen can't even find the Tirpitz. Again, no repairs are done. I guess Germany needs all that iron to make tanks for the Russian Front.
Sept 29, 1943 - the British attempt to use miniature submarines to plant explosives on the Tirpitz. They actually manage to find the Tirpitz...and do absolutely no damage. No repairs are done on the Tirpitz.
Feb 10/11, 1944 - the Red Air Force decides to pitch in. The Red Air Force doesn't do too well - no bombs hit. And again, no repairs are done on the Tirpitz.
April 3, 1944 - Fleet Air decides to take a crack at the Tirpitz. They manage to spot it - and do no damage what so ever. No repairs are done on the Tirpitz.
April 24, 1944 - Fleet Air decides to take another crack at the Tirpitz. They find it, evade the Luftwaffe...and inflict three points of damage, making it five points down for the Tirpitz!!!! This time around, the Germans repair some of the damage (2 points), making the Tirpitz down three points.
May 15, 1944 - Fleet Air attacks again, smelling blood. They find the ship (how hard can a ship in harbor be to to find?!?!). Luftwaffe interceptors spoil the bombers' aim and the Royal Navy scores no hits. No repairs are done on the Tirpitz.
July 17, 1944 - Fleet Air attempts ANOTHER attack. They find the ship but are intercepted by Luftwaffe fighters - but still manage to inflict one point of damage, making the Tirpitz 4 points down. No repairs are done on the Tirpitz.
Aug 22, 1944 - Fleet Air attempts another attack...it would help if they could find it. I'm willing to believe that it was heavy fog and not idiocy which caused them to not find the ship in harbour.
Aug 24, 1944 - Fleet Air attempts yet another attack. Again, they seem to have a hard time finding a large warship in harbour.
Aug 29, 1944 - Fleet Air attempts to make things right by going out yet again - only to NOT find the ship again. LOL.
Sept 15, 1944 - the RAF attempts a sortie with bombers loaded for bear...or, more accurately, loaded WITH Tallboy bombs - RAF bombers manage to do the impossible (at least for the Royal Navy pilots) and locate the Tirpitz. Luftwaffe fighters are nowhere in sight. RAF bombs inflict one point of damage, making the Tirpitz 5 points down. No repairs are done.
Oct 29, 1944 - the RAF attempts another sortie against the Tirpitz, with Tallboy bearing bombs. The RAF bombers fail to find the Tirpitz. No repairs on the Tirpitz.
Nov 12, 1944 - the RAF attempts another Tallboy bearing sortie. They find the ship...and get harrassed by Luftwaffe fighters. No damage is inflicted. No repairs are done either.
The game is over - in all I've rolled a LOT of dice and inflicted 5 points of damage on the Tirpitz. Looking at the rules, I see that this is described as a Strategic Loss.
