The game I'm thinking of had you "build" little metal robot figurines. They all had a base which looked like a rocket engine firing down, and then you would stack 1-3 weapons bays on them. The bays had 6 or so slots to house various offensive and defensive lasers, missiles, claws, shields, and such which would stick out in all directions. The finished robots vaguely resembled skinny Daleks with more suckers and guns sticking out his back and sides in addition to his normal front facing appendiges.

In the game who's name eludes me, the light class would get one weapons platform, medium got two making him a little taller, and the heavy class got three. Lastly you dropped a head on your death machine, put it on the board, and dice based combat would rule the living room.

What was the name of the game?!? If memory serves, I was in about 3rd grade when I got it....so 1982/3-ish???
