Meeting Description: Hi folks,
I've ranted and raved about this delightful game for some time without having a
chance to actually organize an event. Well, the time's right for a splendid
afternoon/evening of mah jong! All skill levels are welcome. If you haven't
played before, don't worry because I'll be going over the rules before we play.
Mah jong is a is a game for four players that originated in China. Mahjong
involves skill, strategy, and calculation, as well as a certain degree of
chance. It is a fun and social game and the sound of the tiles being washed is
the sound of bliss.
Because we will be participating in a tournament style setting, we will be
playing with Zung Jung 3.0 rules. Zung Jung uses patterns from Japanese style
mah jong and has a fair and balanced scoring system based on hand probabilities;
while there is luck involved, Zung Jung doesn't emphasize luck as strongly as
the other scoring systems. We will be using a modified version of the World
Series of Mahjong tournament format rules.
I will be providing prizes for this event and there is an event fee of $3.00.
1st prize = Mah jong set
Depending on participation, there may be prizes for 2nd, 3rd and 4th place
finishes and/or door prizes. These prizes will likely be gently used games from
my collection and/or gift certificates to a gaming store in Calgary. If anyone
is willing to provide games for this purpose, please let me know!
The mah jong part of the event will start at 1:30pm and will finish by 5:00pm.
After 5:00pm (or when the tournament is finished) we can break out other board
