So Jeff and Angel arrived, as has Dave B, but still not Celeste. Best estimate was that she was an hour out. So we found a game that could play all nine of us: 6 nimmt!

After explaining the rules, we dealt out the cards and began. With nine players, 94 cards are in play, and that puts a lot of points on the table. Oddly enough, the four old hands seemed to be the ones collecting them. Alice started taking stacks early, getting caught when someone would take a small pile with their very low card, so that Alice ended up playing her card where she didn't want it to go. But both Daves started taking points, and Jim followed up as well, and by the end of the hand all four of them had taken over 20 points. Tamee and Steve both appeared to catch onto the game quite well, and finished the hand with 9 and 8 points respectively, but it was Angel's 2 points and Danielle's 0 that made them targets.

In the second hand, Jim and Dave B both continued where they left off, taking stacks and collecting points. And though it is hard to target someone in this game, apparently someone was successful, because Danielle racked up 21 points for the hand. This time it was Dave who was able to dodge the points, getting zero for the round and getting back into contention. The other three early contenders, Tamee, Steve, and Angel, scored 11, 15, and 6, respectively, making for a lively competition to come in the third hand.

In the last hand scores seemed to concentrate. Angel finally got her points, as she repeatedly took stacks that seemed to totally surprise her. It gave here 34 points that hand. Danielle, too, collected a bunch, continuing on from the second hand's 21 to get 26 this time. Dave couldn't make his round two fortune last, and he collected 24 points this hand. As we were tallying up the scores, Celeste arrived, so we decided this would be the last hand regardless of the scores. Dave B ended up being the high score, at 60 points. But who won? It turned out to be a battle between the two newcomers, Tamee and Steve, and Steve was just able to squeak out a win, 29 points to Tamee's 30.

Interestingly enough, we last played 6 nimmt! back on July 21, 2006, and Dave B did really well then.Back then, I said "Dave clearly has an aptitude for this sort of game." Based on this session's score, um, maybe I was wrong.
