We've played the Mongolia 2 players map from Tom Rosen several times and it's even better since we made a slight modification. We removed one of the 2 towns (SukhBaatar) close to Ulan Batar to make the map more balance. The reason why we've done this change is because the player who had the initiative on turn 1 used to choose the first build action and build many loops around Ulan Bataar toward Irkutsk. Since we play this way on this map we always had great 2 players game. As usual we used the 2 players turn order rule from John Bohrer's Austria map. This rule keeps the essence of Age of Steam and at the same time the game becames almost a chess game with high tension and you're also able to plan your game soem turns ahead.

Pierre had the initiave on turn 1 and began with the first build action near Ulan Bataar even if this region was weaker that the original rules for this map. Martin choose the urbanization action on turn 1 in the eastern region and then connected Beijing on turn 2 and he already have a nice network in the east. On turn 3 Pierre urbanized in the east to block Martin in doing many nice deliveries and at the same time Pierre was able to connect himself to this new city. Martin had his revenge on the next turn when Pierre again took the urbanization action because he wanted to close a big loop in the west but Martin choose the first build action abd Pierre really had a tough time for the rest of the game. That's the kind of game we like, in this game you can never take anything for granted, specially against the AoS WBC champion ! (Feel free to reply Martin if you have a different version At this time Martin took control of the game and even if Pierre did some effort to come back. On turn 6 Martin took the loco action because there was a nice blue good on Irkutsk that would give him hign income and deny Pierre of a nice shipping but Pierre took the first move action. Pierre had another chance to finish his loop in the west on turn 7 but Martin again took the first build action to block Pierre at Dalandzadgad.

It was really a great game with high interaction and tension. The size of the map is correct with new simple rules that keeps the feeling of the basic game. Thanks for this map Tom Rosen.

Final scoring:
Martin: 88
Pierre: 80
