Re:Common Sense House Rule?
I always encourage the use of house rules! Whatever makes the game more fun for you.
The idea behind the official process is this:
Two rolls means a chance to succeed twice, or fail twice, or, more usually, succeed once and fail once. To a certain extent overcoming the dice is part of the game. I tried to make this a balanced situation where success is probable but gaining treasure (or spells) isn't guaranteed.
Now with Treasure Hunt this may be more of an issue. To ease the Special Treasure burden you may want to play with the suggestion from the errata page on my Web site:
Which says - "To make this game end in a more consistent amount of time, add 2 Bazaar chits to the board before the start of play. This gives everyone targets for purchasing Magic Objects."
Or play with a variant - add a Bazaar chit to the board after 40 minutes of play. Or add it at the beginning but allow each player to buy no more than 1 Magic Object from it.
Whatever works for you.
