There's a really nice and free set of lessons about how to preserve paper and media collections funded by Your Tax Dollars through the Institute for Museum and Library Services. The creators are highly-qualified folks in the area of preservation.
It is a set of 8 lessons designed for librarians and others with collections of materials that need preserving. It is targeting libraries, but there are lessons here about why paper deteriorates and how to stop it that could be very valuable.
While this is something I point my graduate students in Library and Information Science to, I could also see much of the material (especially in dealing with the deterioration of paper) be useful for board game hobbyists.
