Hi,

Question about the VP count for Canal and Rails :

The canal/rail tokens are each one worth as much as the golden coins on either / both sides that the canal/rail connects right ?

This means ever industry thats there ( and is flipped ) is being count meaning the industry of every player gives points to you if you connect them by your canal/rail ?

We just had a game where one concentrated mainly on building a great network of rails...

he ended up by having over 300 VPs ( 190 only from his rails )

but am I correct that it is counted that way ?

does anyone had such an outcome yet ?

Hrmm, while your explanation of how you calculated points sounds correct, scoring 190 points just for rails is impossible, so you must have done something wrong. Each player only has 14 canal/rail counters, and the best possible scoring rail connection on the map is 7. If all 14 counters could be worth 7 points (which isn't even remotely possible), that would be 98 points, so 190 points from scoring rails is out of the question.

Check out the following example:

The green link from Blackpool to Preston is worth 5 points (2 for Blackpool and 3 for Preston).

The green link from Preston to Fleetwood is worth 4 points (3 for Preston and 1 for Fleetwood).

Are you by any chance counting the numbers in the gold circles as points for rail scoring? It's the only way I can think of that you could possibly count up that number of points. If so, you should not be doing this. It's just one point per circle.

You are correct as to the scoring mechanic, although I have never seen a score close to that so am somewhat suspicious that something isn't being played correctly.

Yes that is exactly the misstake we did, we counted the numbers in the golden circles and added them together.

Wrong interpretation of the Rules that is.

So 1 point per golden circle adding up all the industries of each player and not the sum of the digits within the golden circles it is.

Thank you very much that helps a lot, cause we all thought that is giving the rails a way to powerfull role ( except the one who won of course hehe )

Thank you

Greetings from Luxemburg

Ha, yeah, rails would certainly be worth a lot of points that way!

Even with only one point per flipped industry tile, Rails can still net a LOT of points. 60 (or more) points in rails alone is achievable, if you start the rail phase with LOTS of cash. (But not 190!). The links around Manchester, Liverpool, and Preston etc. are good points-generators.
