I've played with 3 and 4 and I think 4 is better. 3 works well, but 4 seems optimal.

I like 6 player games the most, but not many outside the Winsome core group agree with me. It may just be a factor of playing it myriad times during development.

3 player games focus mostly on delta with a side order of incentive and partnership.

4 player games focus on collusion and partnership with a side order of delta.

5 player games focus even more heavily on partnership...and are weird.
