You've got a few good games on your list that you haven't played yet: you must be a collector!

I recommend Goa.

Taluva--I just think it is the neatest game...but not for the spatially
impaired.
Stone Age--all right, I haven't played it, but it will be
delivered tomorrow. It just has to be good. It has to.
Aton--a bit simpler, quicker, has some cards, but not a card game.

Limiting yourself to 2, how do you do it?

I will agree with the Goa recommendation.

I know you said you are not into card games, but you might want to consider an exception for Race for the Galaxy. The more I play it, the more I want to play it. I can not think of a game that I have felt that way about in a long time.

Origins: How We Became Human. The meatiest game in my collection. Has a lot going for it, even if it is the designer's thesis on human history and the rules take 3-4 reads just to get your head around all of the concepts.

I will second Maharaja: The Game of Palace Building in India. A great, meaty game. It works best with 2 or 4, but has a nice level of brain-burn with 5.

Hope this helps.

Here's my list of recommendations... all great meaty games... many are good with 2 players but of course the multiplayer games are of generally even better with more. I left out GREAT games like El Grande, Princes of Florence, Taj Mahal etc because they really need more than 2 to play them.

I also excluded lots of great games like Hammer of the Scots, Twilight Struggle, War of The Ring, Combat Commander: Europe and Commands & Colors: Ancients as well as you don't like wargames... I say you are missing out if you don't try a few of those though.

Tigris & Euphrates
Goa
Railroad Tycoon (best with 4 or 5... but decent variants exist for 2)
Arkham Horror
Imperial (playable with 2 but of course better with more)
Age of Empires III: The Age of Discovery (playable with 2 .. better with more)
Descent: Journeys in the Dark
1960: The Making of the President
Reef Encounter
Louis XIV
Torres
In the Year of the Dragon
Through the Ages: A Story of Civilization
Maharaja: Palace Building in India
Antike (best with more than 2)
Struggle of Empires (best with more than 2)
La Città
Ra
Race for the Galaxy
Samurai
Notre Dame
Acquire
Tikal
Hive
Pillars of the Earth, The
RoboRally
Saint Petersburg
YINSH
Attika
Fury of Dracula
DVONN
Hacienda

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. Anyways I think I've narrowed my choices down to the following 2 selections:

La Citta (seems sorta meaty and complex)
Tikal (Is it better than Mexica?)

What do you guys think?

I haven't had the chance to play Mexica yet, but Tikal is great and you can try a play-by-email game at spielbyweb.com before you buy the board game itself.

I'll be honest, I wouldn't say Tikal is better then Mexica or vice versa. I think it more comes down the fact that I think Tikal they both play well with 2 and 4, ok with 3 (which is pritty common in games with lots of interaction).

I'd have to argue that AP is more common in Tikal but regardless, these are both good games and since your a collector you'll probably want the whole Mask trilogy (tikal, mexica, java) at some point which will lead you to wanting all the Kramer and Kiesling action point games which will then lead you to wanting all Kramer and Kiesling games which will lead you to wanting all Kramers games which will lead you to buying Kiesling's Vikings.

Good luck!
