The League of Extraordinary Gamers (LXG) is an incorporated association, established in Brisbane in April 2004. The founders of the association have over 20 years of experience in running similar clubs and organising special events such as conventions, tournaments and in-store game demonstrations. LXG was set up specifically to create a more family-friendly association, whereas previous Brisbane games clubs were more focussed on gamers 15+ only. The goals of the new association, written into its constitution, were:

-to establish a club venue for persons interested in all aspects of tabletop and electronic gaming
-to promote those gaming interests to the wider community, particularly the educational and social values of playing board games with friends and family

The games played at LXG are diverse and include familiar classics, such as Chess, Scrabble and Monopoly, through to relatively new innovations, such as miniature battle games, role-playing, eurogames, collectible card games and computer games.

As well as running a monthly all-day games day at our current venue (Cavendish Road State High School Assembly Hall) LXG runs internal tournaments in different games for its members and two major annual events open to anyone – Legends of Winter (held in August) and Legends of Summer (held in February). In addition, LXG runs an annual gaming ‘holiday’ called Winter Retreat, where gamers of Brisbane relax playing games over a long weekend at a country recreational camp.

In 2007 LXG won a grant to establish a games library valued at over $16,000. We now have the largest games resource in Australia that members can borrow from.

The LXG web-site and forum can be viewed at: http://au.geocities.com/qldlegs/

The purpose of this email is that we have been speaking to a number of games distributors about how we could assist in promoting tabletop games across Australia and we are very interested in helping to create a number of LXG clubs across Australia to progress this. We are therefore looking for individuals who would be interested in forming an LXG in their own state capital. We are more than happy to assist with ongoing advice on setting up your club, establishing your club as as an incorporated association, applying for grants to build a games libray and providing templates for stationery, posters and flyers.

So, if you are interested in setting up a family-friendly club devoted to games, contact me and we can help get the ball rolling.

Regards,

Keith
