Hi - a question developed in this evenings game about terrain and ranged weapons. Namely, can archers shoot upon a unit from four tiles away, when the defending unit is atop a hill? It kind of doesn't make sense. At the very least you should be penalized for shooting uphill.

Can anyone help clarify rules on this? It doesn't seem to be covered in the rulebook.

Thanks in advance
Walt

Check your little reference cards. Pretty sure you get two dice of bow fire at an enemy unit on a hilltop four hexes away. Of course, that will be your limit before adding any bonuses for Lore cards or the like. Same for shooting into/out of woods. Don't forget to drop a die if the firing bow unit moved.

The penalty of the hill and woods are that it limits you to just two dice for normal ranged combat. Other troops, like the Medium Arquibuses, would get more than two dice for shooting and would thus be reduced to two when going after units on a hill or in the woods.
