Results for what games you would want if you could only have 5 games when marooned on an Island.
#1 Twilight Imperium (Third Edition) The epic game everyone wants to play but there just isn't enough time and friends to get together to play 9 hours.
#2 Arkham Horror WOW! #61 on the BGG rankings must be on the top of the list of the people who play it
These 2 had almost twice as many votes as #3-#10
#3 Deck of Cardsthe diversity of games that one can get out of them.
#4 Catan The one that renewed life back into boardgames still on peoples to play list.
#5 Magic: The Gathering Though I burned out from buying "Magic the addiction" years ago. I can't keep up with the new powers and ability's of the newer decks. Always bringing in new gamers.
#6 TIE Twilight Struggle
#6 TIE Agricola this game prob took votes away from Puerto Rico which got very few. It will most likely replace it on BGG in the near future too.
#8 Railways of the World leads me to believe most gamers really want something in the middle of complexity IE. between Ticket to Ride and Age of Steam
#9 GO a oldie but goody (Ancient but goody)
#10 Tigris & Euphrates only the 3rd top 10 BGG to make the list. I'm guessing people want a few "Gamers Games" and more middle complexity games. I'll just call them "Players games"
Best response one guy picked his 5 games then added that they would use shells to make pieces for a homemade "GO" game
ME: I would take my 5 games and carve my own Chess & Gosets and make a flip board

That's a big assumption to make. It could have more to do with the tastes of the people who chose to participate in the poll than the collective taste of "most gamers."
If I was a Kid on that island and it was the 1960s :
Battle Cry, Broadside, Dogfight & Hit the Beach with Stratego
If it was the 1970s
Battle Cry, Broadside, Dogfight, Skirmish with Stratego
If it was the 1980s
The reading material provided by TSR to try to play one game of D&D would be piled so high that you could be on the island for the decade and never repeat a page twice. Let alone finish die rolling and checking a chart. Sleep adieu!
If it was the 1990s
A Time Machine to prevent Hasbro from purchasing Avalon Hill and reverse the disaster of August, 1998.
