I read this version will have a deluxe map. Does that mean mounted or what?

GMT deluxe maps are thick cardboard, not mounted.

I don't see why. It increases the weight which incurs larger shipping costs. I find deluxe maps to be more than acceptable. In fact, I find anything except a crayon-drawn doodle to be fine.

For point to point, low unit density games with no LOS which are somewhat small, mounted maps are nice. Also, original Sucessors was mounted.

Well, for every person who complains about increased shipping costs, there are at least 10 who complain about a thin map.

While I agree that as long as it isn't muddled or hard to look at, I don't get worried much about the physical quality of a game, I certainly don't complain when it is better either. And I just can't get upset about shipping costs from a heavier package.

So, I'm quite happy with the mounted board. In fact, I'm very impressed by it. It's a single piece of cardboard cut so it folds down in eight sections. I think it might be more vulnerable to getting torn apart due to incautious handling than the normal gap-fold, but so far it seems solid. More importantly, the map has a texture to it should keep things from sliding around much.

Yes, the linen finish is another classy detail among many (despite some curiosities like the plastic stands and the absence of a turn marker). I was horrified to see that a poster on another thread remarked on the linen finish but lamented that it would still be under plexi! Now there is a fellow wedded to habit (if you've got it, flaunt it I guess)...
