the hive tournament final at Boardspace.net is turning
into a marathon. The score so far is \

Ahchong 2, Eucalyx 1, and 26 Draws, after two sessions

Next games are scheduled for Tuesday Aug 12 at 17:00 GMT

Also, a discussion of "the draw problem" is at

Eucalyx whipped me in the round of 16. I hadn't explored much of the queen openings, but after reviewing some of the games from these top players I can see that it's just so much more efficient. The tempo of the game is very tight to begin with, and it seems like not playing a queen puts you too far behind.

I'd love to be proven wrong, but I suspect that one of the rules tweaks will end up being adopted for tournament play.

This is distressing... doesn't provide much incentive to learn to play the game well. Anyway, I'm no expert on Hive, but I suspect that the way to implement the Pie Rule would be to have the first player place three pieces, then have the second player choose which side they want to be.
