The People's Republic of China would cheat at everything, including the Opening Ceremonies. Oh, wait: they did.

And the US is so perfect that they wouldn't cheat at anything?
I think the firework issue is regarding safety of the cameras in the air, I mean you think China would skim out on fireworks?

And the thing with the little girl, I can understand it being a Chinese. China is very hang up on the whole image thing. There is so much negative images of China due to the country's economics, human rights, etc. that they just want to show everyone, through the Olympics that we are not "third world ugly". The little girl who performed was a veteran of ads and television, she does have more performing experience than the real little girl with the voice. If they picked any 9 year old from the street who can sing, doesn't mean they will/want/can sing in such a monumental occassion facing millions of viewers. Besides they did come out and admit that the singing is dubbed, so it proves that they weren't trying to hide it and cheat the other little girl of her talent. I wouldn't call it cheating, it's just to put on a show, for people like you and me, to enjoy. They just try too hard, for a good reason.

I can't stand it when people just say something ignorant like xxxx country sucks. you are entitled to your own opinion but I find the post offensive. cry

I find your post defensive. Didn't say the PRC sucks, though it is evil through and through. Its people are mostly good. But the ones that run it are evil, with a capital evil.

Pot meet kettle. The U.S. has no room to fault China for the little girl. U.S. sporting events have long featured acts with lip synching. And it's been done many many times at the Olympics in tha past. They don't have the time to set everything up and do a proper sound check, so they use canned music. It's only been in the last couple years where acts that appeared at the Superbowl, for example, have had live performing at the halftime show. It's still mostly recorded music with only the singing done live.

I thought he was talking about the underage Gymnast myself. I didn't hear about the lip syncing girl singer.

The Chinese also added digital imagery to the Op Ceremonies. I suppose it is only fitting, as the first ones were designed by Hitler, so all totalitarian regimes get a free pass when trying to improve their image afore the world.

It is meant to be defensive. I know you didn't use the word sucks, but it is what you mean.

The ones that run the coutnry is definitely not the greatest, and corruption is a very serious problem. But that is another issue. It seems a little pointless and honestly, offensive to just comment that China is a cheater. Maybe it's just your wording, it sounds very "unfriendly." Maybe that is why there shouldn't be political debates (or threads leading up to it) in the chit chat forum. gulp

He mentioned opening ceromony.

The underaged gymnast, I know about it, and it is possibily true, but no one can prove it.

do you mean the digital fireworks? or the world's largest LED display thing? I am confused.

China isn't totalitarian exactly. They have a socialistic communism.

If true, it doesn't matter whether it can be proved or not, that would equate to cheating. Just because they get away with cheating would not change that. We just might not know if they truly DID cheat.

Sure, it looks pretty bad that they faked some aspects of the opening ceremonies, but it's not like they bribed their way into the Olympics:

Nope. I'm just severely depressed (again) and taking it out on the first thing I see. Still, it does not stop the sentiment from being true.

Time to hit the Zoloft. Again.

No one would know other than the girls and the families. But because we don't know, you cannot assume that you know and say they are cheating. If you don't have proof, they are innocent of cheating. Isn't it the basis of the american justice afterall? Innocent until proven guilty.

Well According to the Chinese's State run National News Media themselves, one of their Gymnasts was 13 as of 9 months ago.

Well, if she medals and they prove later on that she's underage, goodbye medal and goodbye ability to compete in any further national amateur competitions.

See I don't understand why would China be stupid enough to pull something like this. There are so many people in China, finding a good gymnast who is the right age and who is good shouldn't be that hard.
Well they are urging IOC to pursue this further, I guess we will see what happens. Is it proof enough if the age/birthday found was from some provential newspaper with no credibility?

Here's yet another fine example of their duplicitous 'activities': http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/frontpage/2008/0816/1218... while we could hardly "fault" them if the many others weren't "pretty" and presentable enough eh?
