I'm not sure what this means, but here are the numbers:

32%* of Agricola's ten-raters are real people (with avatar).

21%** of Puerto Rico's ten-raters are real people (again, with avatar).

I leave this to you, the professionals, to make meaning of this.

*207 real people, 424 sorta people, total 631 "10's"
** 513 real people, 1869 sorta people, total 2382 "10's"

I had no idea you had to have an avatar to be considered a real person. I'm so glad I made the transition from fake to real with a bit of geek gold for assistance.

I don't think it means a damn thing. But, I'll tell you this, when Agricola can amass the amount of ratings PR has and then come out number one, that will be impressive. If it hits the one spot without even a quarter, well, that's just new game fever. (I hate both games, so I don't care either way).

So it is more than 2 to 1 for Puerto Rico.
Only real people with enough passion to rate something a 10 should count.
Does any game come close to PR's 513 real ratings

I was going to mention that I rated them both a 9 and am still waiting for Caylus to rise to the top of the BGG list, but sadly I am only a sorta person. Can I maybe get 3/5ths of a vote?

I've rated Agricola and Puerto Rico, Just because I Can Not afford an avatar does not make me an nobody. I'm sure theirs a lot of geek fans who don't take the time to do what ever to earn GG and buy the avatar.
If thats the thinking of this site a lot of people are in trouble, we don't bother with show man ship.

PS: so where ohh where is that thumbs down icon again??

I'm reasonably sure Joe is joking. I wouldn't get too worked up about it.

(of course, I can say that because I'm real...)

BTW...you're on the wrong end of Caylus' trendline. It's already peaked at 2 and has been on the decline ever since.

It's a plot.

Agricola is 70 $USD
That's seventy bucks plus tax for the volume of a shoebox containing paper and some colored wood. That has to be a huge margin.

You can buy BGG Gold

Being the #1 pick (especially using this real person stat) has to increase sales. *

???

Profit!!!!

Isn't there a way to do the same statistics with another meaning of the word 'real'? Like logged in in the last 6 months?

Your definition of real is a bit misleading. I don't have an avatar, but I have been pretty involved in BGG for almost a year. I just don't have any GG to buy an avatar.

I am pretty sure the original poster meant it as a joke.

I know I did. I don't care if you have a avatar or not.
I also don't care how much you have contributed as long as you have something interesting to say.

I am guessing the OP was playing with the stats and looking for a way to view the ratings without potential shills. Not that people without avatars are inferior but if you took the time to get one then maybe you have played the game and can give and informed opinion which might be a way to look at the ratings of these over-hyped games. Most likely not, but it was a fun stat none the less.

There you go, you can be a "real" person now

For the record, I agree that it's silly to define people as "real" by having an avatar. Imho, you can pretty much only suspect a shill account when they rate 1 (or maybe 2) games and have no collection. When a user builds up his collection and goes out rating games, that's a "real" person.

And the term is "elitist"...

I may not be real, but I have played both games and rated them both. Although I think Power Grid is better than both games, but my opinion is worthless until I can get 8 more GG.

Thanks to all that have contributed. When I get my Avitar it will be Pinocchio and my bio will have "I'm a real little boy" as my description.

Years ago I worked in a computer store. A customer walked in and asked for MS Office. When he saw the price he said "$600 for 4 CDs? Blank CD's are $1 each!!!".

I told him I'd be glad to sell him blank CDs for a $1 each, but I didn't think he'd get much work done.

People don't realize the costs involved when designing, producing, marketing, and shipping a product. Yes Agricola is just some paper an coloured wood, but the game is more than just its components.
