This game is in over! Enlightenment was achieved by epsalon:

a koan have Buddha nature if
Spoiler (click to reveal)
...it contains at least two dice of different values with a greater value die preceding a lesser value die.

The secret rule was worded this way:

Spoiler (click to reveal)
A koan does not have the buddha nature if all its dice emoticons appear in ascending order.

Emoticon Zendo Rules:
-All BGG users start with exactly one guessing token.
-There is no "Mondo" -- there is only "Master" and guessing
-There are no turns, but no one user may do "master" two consecutive times. No one user may "guess" twice consecutively. A user may do a "master" and then make a guess consecutively.
-Additional guessing stones can be purchased for 1 GG. The GG should be submitted as a tip to this thread. The student with the first correct guess (the winner) will win all the GG as a prize.
-Please thumb the main thread if you participate.

Emoticon Zendo Conventions:
-Koans are built from a single line of emoticons. No letters/numbers/etc.
-The 2nd emoticon from the left is in 'position #2', etc.
-I will use thumbsup and thumbsdown to answer each "master", so please don't use these emoticons in your Koan.

Here is an example of a Koan of length 4 which has a smiley face in position #3:

Take heart, student. Another day another rule. This, however, does not have the Buddha Nature.

Master, does a koan have Buddha nature if
Spoiler (click to reveal)
...it contains at least two dice of different values with a greater value die preceding a lesser value die.

(please return my guessing token if my latest "Master" is a counter-example to this guess).

Congratulations, you have achieved enlightenment! My original phrasing was:

Spoiler (click to reveal)
A koan does not have the buddha nature if all its dice emoticons appear in ascending order.

But once I more clearly saw the set of positive koans, I expected to see the rule in its positive form instead.

I return to my student status and await your teachings, Master epsalon.

You should use "nondecending" in place of "ascending", otherwise d10-3d10-3 would have the Buddha nature.

Damn, I had a hunch this was the rule, but I wasn't sure enough to guess it yet (I wondered about the presence of other emoticons and how they might affect it). Congrats!

I did consider the wording and decided ascending included equivalent values, which meant "nondescending" would preclude duplicates. Of course, that's just the way a programmer would look at it -- the way I was thinking of it was "all the dice are sorted in ascending order."
