Picked this up at GenCon, and while I like the game quite a lot, I find that the ball joints on the little plastic stands are way too loose and sloppy to actually be used as intended.

The motorcycles kind of flop all over the place, and won't hold a lean, let alone a wheelie.

Anyone else having this problem, and does anyone have any suggestions how to "firm 'em up"? :Insert Viagra joke here:

Seriously though - $60 for a game with gimmicky bits that don't work right is kind of making me regret my impulse buy.

I made the same impulse buy Haven't had trouble with the ball joint yet, but expect that I will shortly (popular game in our house ).

During the demo, he did say that these were proto-type bikes and not up to the standards that the boxed game would be, however, appear the same to me. Maybe FFG is producing sturdier bikes and will make them available to us that couldn't wait?

Is there any way you could pop the joint apart and firm it up by placing a tiny piece of paper in between the ball & socket? Or possibly use a drop of Threadlock?

That's the solution I had in mind. Not sure if it would be successful, but it will be my first attempt once those bikes sag

I haven't had that problem with my bikes. They easily move but will remain in the intended position.

I bet a dab of silicone on the ball would snug it up. Or even a little rubber cement.

Its the putty stuff that holds up posters etc. I am sure that there is a US brand name for it but thats what its called over here.

I use it for all sorts of things in board games. It is commonly used in my place to hold Heroclix flying figures in their bases and to stick the "Zombie Hero" counter to the bottom of the Zombie Heros base in LNoE for example.

I bet that a little of it in the socket of the ball joint would sort it out. Cheap too at about €2 for all you could ever need for games.

The OP did mention they were prototype components.

I wish this game was available now.

What we are dealing with here is a perfect engine, a gaming machine. It's really a miracle of evolution. All this gamer does is sleep and eat and place little meeples, and that's all.

That's a bummer. I got a copy at Gencon too. The motorcycles were in a separate bag because they had the plastic bits redone because the first ones were too loose. I played once and didn't have any trouble with the stands.
It did seem though that the leaning and wheelie, while looking cool, didn't serve much game function other than to mark that you get a -1 on your next turn (i could be wrong or oversimplifying though)

I wish they came out with a version of this game with simple cardboard chits and a xeroxed off game board. I hate paying extra for all that extra fluff.

Kidding--I have Heroscape with about 18 expansions :)

Looking cool is a worthy goal.

Man, HeroScape really sucked me in too. Just did a quick tally, 68 separate boxes of that plastic crack. I don't even want to know how much in discretionary expenditures that equals laugh And, I haven't even been keeping up. I was on the "one of each unique, two of each common (with several exceptions )" plan through the first 6 waves and only have been derailed by my current fixation with Commands & Colors games.

But, yeah, while game play is #1, looking cool is certainly an aspect I notice

My stands are loose as well. However, I just use a flipped slipstream marker to show when a bike gets a -1 to its movement and ignore the actual position of the bike.

With my eye-sight, it isn't easy to tell the actual position of the bike anyways.
